Whether you like them on the rocks or blended, with salt or without, spicy or sweet, there is no denying the appeal of the margarita. It’s a tried and true classic drink that has fans across the world, but especially in our Windy City. Luckily for cocktail lovers everywhere, today, February 22nd, is National Margarita Day, so there’s no reason not to celebrate!

Here are 8 must-try margaritas:

  • Federales {180 North Morgan Street, Chicago; 773.831.9696}: Go for the gold with their Cadillac Margarita and get ready to ring the bell! If you like it sweet, they also have Raspberry, Strawberry, Tiki, and Mango options! All of these should be sipped now, and then savored all summer long on the Federales patio.
  • De Cero {814 West Randolph Street, Chicago; 312.455.8114}: Made with 100-percent blue agave and fresh squeezed fruit juices, these margaritas don’t mess around! Order them on the rocks and pair it with the specialty Basil & Olive Guacamole and a Chicken Mole taco.
  • Buzz Bait Taqueria {1529 North Wells Street, Chicago; 312.664.2899}: With options like Classic, Blueberry Mint, and Mango Django, you can’t go wrong. Their menu hones in on taqueria classics so you know you are only going to get the best with each bite, but the Sweet and Spicy Ahi Tuna Poke is a must-try.

  • Taco Joint {158 West Ontario Street, Chicago; 312,337.8226}: Though they have margaritas in all the colors and flavors of the rainbow, we have to recommend the Black N’ Green Margarita, complete with a Negra Modelo Beer. There are multiple locations across the city too, so everyone can enjoy!
  • Carnivale {702 West Fulton Street, Chicago; 312.850.5005}: Come for the margaritas, stay for the atmosphere! The colorful interior makes for an evening you won’t want to end, so bring a large group and enjoy. Other cocktail highlights include their signature martini, also tequila-based, as well as housemade sangria.
  • Mezcalina {333 East Benton Place, Chicago; 312.240.5000}: For an upscale, but truly authentic taste, try the Margarita Mezcalina. It’s made with mezcal joven de la casa, plus Grand Marnier, lime, and salt. Pair it with one of their ceviches or pork stuffed poblano chilis for a perfect meal.
  • MAD Social {1140 West Madison Street, Chicago; 312.243.2097}: Introducing the El Guapo Margarita, courtesy of a tasty combination of Milagro blanco tequila, housemade vanilla spiced syrup, jalapeño simple, bitters, of course, salt. This baby is the perfect drink to celebrate with, but if you aren’t a tequila-lover, the West Loop spot also has daily deals like $5 drafts and bottles on Wednesdays.
  • Baptiste & Bottle {101 East Erie Street, Chicago; 312.667.6793}: Their La Doña Margarita is made with Milagro tequila, plus special ingredients like Carpano Bianco, Chareau, and lime bitters. In the newly opened Conrad Chicago Hotel, you will feel like an A-lister sharing a couple of these with friends over happy hour.
