A Manhattan is a cocktail traditionally made with whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters. DiningOut: Why is the Manhattan the perfect fall drink?

Steve Gleich: The Manhattan is perfect for fall. The vermouth adds a sweet allspice/clove flavor while the bitters add an herbal aromatic.

People are very precise on how they prefer their Manhattan. What do you think it says about you?

How you make your Manhattan is based on your palate preferences. Personally, I like a bolder and more bitter flavor, so I use a higher proof spicy rye, bitter vermouth, and classic angostura bitters.

What are ways to add sweetness to the drink?

If you want a sweeter Manhattan, start off with using bourbon as your base spirt. For your vermouth, you’re going to want to use a fruit or floral-forward selection. I like using lillet rouge (a French aperitif wine) or bornal; I prefer Bittercube Cherry Vanilla Bark.

What foods would you pair with a Manhattan?

They go great with savory foods like pork belly and steak!

What are some other fun cocktails we should try this fall?
