12 Must-Do Events for June

From the return of Top Taco to rare whiskey tastings—Denver has it all this month

Graduations, weddings, Father’s Day? Well, clear your calendars because there is so much going on this month! We have rounded up our 12 favorite events for June and suggest you try to hit them all.

When: Wednesday, June 7, 6-9pm

Where: Elway’s {2500 East 1st Avenue, Denver; 303.399.5353}
What: The big slider battle of the season takes place every year in the courtyard behind Elway’s Cherry Creek. Denver’s top chefs battle it out in a friendly competition of sliders and sides—it is up to you to crown the winner. Relax and enjoy the food, cold drinks, great live music, all in support Men’s Health at Denver Health. Tickets are $100 for General Admission and $250 for VIP and can be purchased here. What: Back for the fifth time, New Kids on the Block celebrates new Colorado craft breweries with a “radtacular” ’80s Dance Party. Join PorchDrinking.com and The Lobby for another celebration, with unlimited pours from approximately 20 of the best up-and-coming Colorado breweries, each showcasing two of their best beers. Additionally, the ’80s dance party will be rocking all night long with a live DJ. Be sure to dress the part to win brewery prizes for best-dressed outfits. Nosh on small bites provided by Briar Common Brewery & Eatery, Rackhouse Pub, and The Lobby. General admission tickets are available for $35 and $40 the day of the event.

Where: Snowmass Village Mall, Snowmass, CO
What: In its second year, The Snowmass Rendezvous Craft Beer Festival summons 30 Colorado craft breweries from all over the state for a perfect day of beer tasting and live music. This year’s festival concludes with live music from headliner Hot Buttered Rum, along with other fabulous musicians. Experience two classic Colorado treats—good beer and good tunes in one perfect day in the high country.

When: Sunday, June 11, 3-6pm

Where: Ace Eat Serve {501 East 17th Avenue, Denver; 303.800.7705}
What: Each year, Ace Eat Serve crowns a chef the coveted title of Denver’s Wing King. Join them, as Denver’s top chefs compete with creative dishes featuring wings, both chicken and otherwise. Join the charity wing eating competition, open to all guests for a $20 donation. Or try your luck at the Whiskey grab. Enjoy wings prepared by eight Denver chefs, whiskey cocktails, beer, and additional foods from the chefs at Ace. Eat, drink, and enjoy live music from The Buffalo Wingman members of Euforquestra. All proceeds benefit The Denver Housing Authority’s Youth Culinary Academy. VIP tickets are SOLD OUT, but GA tickets are available here for $50. 

When: Wednesday, June 14, 6:30pm

Where: Adelitas Cocina y Cantina {1294 South Broadway, Denver; 303.778.1294}
What: Each June, Adelitas Cocina y Cantina brings us an opportunity to visit Oaxaca without leaving Denver. The dinner is hosted by Asis Cortes, whose family founded one of the oldest Mezcal palenques in 1840. The evening begins with a welcome cocktail, courtesy of Eric Giardina of El Jorgorio and continues with a five-course meal prepared by Adelitas’ Chef Silvia. Each course will be served with a unique Mezcal cocktail. The entire evening is $75 per person and reservations are required. Call 303.778.1294 to secure a spot.

Where: Omni Hotel Outdoor Pavilion {500 Interlocken Boulevard, Broomfield}
What: Summer is here and it’s time to celebrate the rosé drinking lifestyle. The Drink Pink Vino International Wine Festival offers wine enthusiasts the chance to sample over sixty new releases just as the summer rosé drinking season is underway. This year’s festival features more than 75 domestic and international rosés. Additionally, local restaurants will be on hand serving up great pink pairings and there will be oysters, live jazz, and a “Best in Pink” fashion contest. A silent auction will benefit There with Care.  Tickets are $70 for General Admission and VIP tickets afford access an hour early at 5pm and cost $100. When: Tuesday, June 20, 6-9pm

Where: Old Major {3316 Tejon Street, Denver; 720.420.0622}
What: Chef Justin Brunson is known for attracting some of the nation’s best culinary talent to Old Major. On Tuesday, June 20, Chef Michael Scelfo, owner of Alden and Harlow in Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA will be taking over the helm of Old Major and offering a four-course tasting menu that plays homage to his roots, bringing you food from the heart. The four-course tasting menu is available throughout the evening for $55 with an optional $25 beverage pairing. Come in whenever you want—just be sure to make a reservation.

When: Thursday, June 22, starts at 6:30 pm
Where: The River North Festival Grounds {3715 Chestnut Place, Denver}
What: Top Taco is back! This culinary throwdown takes place on the evening of Thursday, June 22, where more than 45 restaurants—including Comida, Dos Santos, Margs, Pinche Tacos, Los Chingones, and Machete—will go head to head for the Top Taco title in the Creative, Traditional, and Vegetarian Taco. Plus our favorite cocktail shakers will compete for the best Signature Tequila Cocktail. Taco fiends will enjoy unlimited samples of all the tacos and margaritas, along with unique tequila samples, beer, wine, and more. Be sure to dance away the evening to the live rhythm and beat of La Candela, Denver’s hottest salsa band. VIP ticketholders will not only get access to a private lounge and an extra hour to taste, but the VIP section will have its own showdown between three of the greatest BBQ masters in the world. Where: Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey {200 South Kalamath Street, Denver; 303.296.7440}
What: Stranahan’s, Colorado’s oldest whiskey distillery, is hosting their annual Cask Thief festival on June 24th. This is a “once a year” opportunity to taste some of Stranahan’s most rare barrels, hand selected by Master Distiller, Rob Dietrich. The evening will include rare and exclusive whiskey tastings, a Blackbelly pig roast on used Stranahan’s barrel staves, DAR Chocolate dessert bar, two live bands, and a demo from our barrel maker, Independent Stave Company. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased here

What: The summer edition of the Denver Flea is a two-day extravaganza, bringing together over 200 Colorado artisans and retailers paired with food trucks, local beer, and craft cocktails. Get all your seasonal shopping done while enjoying summer sippers and more. The $5 ticket price supports the Denver Flea’s non-profit partner, Rocky Mountain Microfinance Institute. Where: Cirque Kitchen + Spirits {3455 Ringsby Court #105, Denver}
What: The team at Cirque Kitchen + Spirits is launching their first pop up this month in partnership with Comal Heritage Food Incubator. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour to meet and mingle before a four-course meal paired with cocktails and wine. The concept behind these new pop-up dinners is to create an intimate atmosphere where like-minded people can unite over food in an exciting and adventurous venue. Executive chef Brandon Becker brings his passion for food, utilizing beautiful ingredients to create dishes that look as good as they taste. Comal Heritage Food Incubator’s goal is to provide skills in culinary arts and business to a cohort of women—many originating from Mexico, El Salvador, Peru, and even Syria—to maintain and celebrate their traditions through entrepreneurial ventures. Together they will take traditional Latin heritage foods and elevate them with techniques taken from Modernist Cuisine. Tickets are $80 all inclusive and can be purchased here

When: Friday, June 30 through Sunday, July 2

Where: Buena Vista, CO
What: Take in the sweeping mountain views and the sounds of the river, jam out to amazing live acts featuring Bluegrass, Soul, and Americana, and sample unlimited beer tastings from a variety of esteemed local and out-of-state breweries. The weekend long event starts with free tunes by the river and drinks followed on Saturday with unlimited beer samplings and live music at South Main Square before wrapping up with a float down the Arkansas River on Sunday, July 2nd. Attendees have the option of purchasing either partial or full ticket packages.
