13 Can’t-Miss Denver Food Events this August

This month is jam-packed with food events you’re not going to want to miss—cocktail competitions, burger battles, yet another food and wine event—plus, a few “holidays” worth indulging for (hello, National Oyster Day and National Ice Cream Sandwich Day). So if you’ve been meaning to stay in for dinner, well, this isn’t the month to do it. August is here and it brought some real treats with it! Here are 13 food events in Denver and beyond that you’ll want to save your appetite for.

CREAM Belmar

National Ice Cream Sandwich Day
When: Thursday, August 2, 1-4pm

What: Colorado’s been experiencing a heat streak, no doubt! But lucky for you, the season’s hottest month also includes National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. To help you cool off, CREAM Belmar is serving miniature versions of its warm, handcrafted ice cream sandwiches for just one cent in honor of the holiday! Lucky guests who swing by from 1-4pm will find a sweet (and affordable!) way too cool off!

Denver Burger Battle

Denver Burger Battle
When: Thursday, August 2, 6:30pm
Where: Tivoli Quad Park {1000 Larimer Street, Denver}
What: You can help determine the best burger in town at the 2018 Denver Burger Battle when you sample juicy burgers from 20 competing local restaurants and vote for your favorite. For $69, enjoy three hours of unlimited burger tasting, beer, wine, cocktails, and live music. VIP tickets ($125) will get you access to a VIP lounge and 5pm entry so you can sink your teeth into the first patties off the grill. Early Access tickets ($89) get you into the festival at 5:30pm! Food Truck Rally: Stop #3
When: Friday, August 3, 4-10pm
Where: The Art District on Santa Fe {Santa Fe Drive between 7th and 11th avenues}
What: For the third stop in its four-part summer series, the Truck Stop Rally will make an appearance at the Art District on Santa Fe’s popular First Friday Art Walk. Featuring nearly 40 food trucks, plus craft beer and cocktails, this cherished community tradition just got tastier. The food truck lineup includes local favorites, like The Budlong Hot Chicken truck, Billy’s Gourmet Dogs, Cirque Kitchen, The Colorado Pig Rig, J Street Food Truck, and more. Entry to the festival is free. 

Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar

National Oyster Day
When: Sunday, August 5
Where: Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar {multiple locations}
What: If oysters tickle your fancy, then this holiday is for you. For this holiday, bivalve lovers can enjoy Jax’s freshly-shucked, sustainably-sourced oyster selections by way of three different flight selections: raw, featuring three West Coast oysters and three East Coast oysters paired with mignonettes; cooked, featuring chargrilled, Buffalo fried, and Rockefeller oysters; or shooters: spotlighting three boozy oyster-infused libations and oysters on the side.

Flatirons Food Film Festival Fundraiser
When: Tuesday, August 7, 6-9:30pm
Where: Boulder Brands Offices {1600 Pearl Street, Boulder; 303.652.0521}
What: The “Shake It Up: Cocktails and Cuisine” fundraising event will collect proceeds to put toward the 2018 Flatirons Food Film Festival (October 11-14). The event will feature small bites and signature cocktails from Blackbelly, Bramble and Hare, Emmerson, and Fortuna Chocolate, to name a few. Bryan Dayton from Corrida and OAK at Fourteenth will host a cocktail presentation, and a jazz band from Harmony Music House will provide live entertainment. Screenings of short cocktail films will be shown, and live and silent auctions will spotlight exciting culinary-centered prizes. Tickets are $75 in advance and $85 at the door; buy your tickets here

Pizzeria Locale

BOGOs for Bookworms
When: Wednesday, August 8, 11am-10pm
Where: Pizzeria Locale {multiple locations}
What: All those trips to the library are about to pay off—swing by either of Pizzeria Locale’s Denver locations, flash a valid Denver Public Library card, and get one free pizza with the purchase of another pizza of equal or greater value.

10th annual Cherry Creek North Food & Wine
When: Saturday, August 11, 6-9pm
Where: Fillmore Plaza {Fillmore Street between 1st and 2nd avenues}
What: Food and wine come together once again for the 10th annual Cherry Creek North Food & Wine event. Sample wine, beer, spirits, and bites from 21 of the area’s top restaurants. Julep

Julep’s first annual Crawfish Boil
When: Saturday, August 11, noon-4pm
Where: Julep {3258 Larimer Street, Denver; 303.295.8977}
What: Stop by Julep for its first ever Crawfish Boil. Celebrating the feasts of the South, guests will enjoy all-you-can-eat Southern fare courtesy of Julep Chef Kyle Foster and all-you-can-drink brews from Denver’s own Ratio Beerworks. Tickets are $49 and can be purchased here.

Denver BrunchFest

Denver BrunchFest
When: Sunday, August 12, 11am-3pm
Where: Civic Center Park {Bannock Street between 14th and Colfax avenues}
What: Sleep in and start your lazy Sunday the right way—at 11am filling up on Denver’s best brunch options. The second annual Denver BrunchFest is celebrating the unofficial best meal of the day. Dozens of local restaurants will dish up dreamy brunch bites, alongside bottomless mimosas and Bloody Marys. Tickets are $65 for unlimited food and drink samples. But with the Brunch Club Express Pass ($95), get in a half hour early and hop in the express line at several of the event’s bars. Buy your tickets here.

Avanti Food & Beverage

Avanti Food & Beverage Cocktail Competition
When: Monday, August 13, 6-9pm
Where: Avanti Food & Beverage {3200 North Pecos Street, Denver; 720.269.4778}
What: For one evening, 10 of Denver’s top bartenders will come together at Avanti Food & Beverage in a competition to produce a cocktail that is better than the rest. Limited to only six ingredients, competitors must get creative in order to win the votes of the guests, as well as wow the panel of judges, which will include representatives from Avanti, New Belgium, Shinola, and the Colorado Bartender’s Guild. Entry to the event is free.

Marczyk’s Collaborative Dinner at Coperta
When: Thursday, August 16, 6:30pm
Where: Coperta {400 East 20th Avenue, Denver; 720.749.4666}
What: Next in the Marczyk Collaborative dinner series—a sequence of dinners that each explore a unique theme inspired by fresh local ingredients—is the Marczyk Mushroom Dinner at Coperta. With help from Coperta Chef Paul C. Reilly and Pete Marczyk (from Marczyk Fine Foods), the dinner will center around Colorado mushrooms, and each dish will spotlight edible fungi that Reilly and Marczyk foraged themselves. The five-course prix-fixe dinner will also feature wine pairings from Coperta’s own sommelier. Tickets are $59 per person and does not include tax or gratuity. Call ahead to make a reservation. 

Velorama
When: August 17-19
Where: RiNo Art District {27th and Blake streets, Denver}
What: Velorama Festival is once again gracing the streets of the RiNo Art District with three full days of music, art, food, brews, and cycling! Jam out to musical performances by celebrated artists, like Modest Mouse and Cold War Kids, chow down on small plates from the city’s most cherished food trucks, sip on drafts from local microbreweries, and celebrate Denver’s art and cycling cultures! 2018 Chef and Brew Festival
When: August 29 at 7pm
Where: Exdo Center {1399 35th Avenue, Denver}
What: Back for its seventh year, the annual Chef and Brew Festival will be landing at the Exdo Event Center. Pairing local craft beer with chef-driven food, the festival will bring together over 20 of Denver’s best chefs and craft brewers. Nosh on unlimited samples and vote for your favorite!
