5 Can’t-Miss February Events in Boulder


The post-holiday lull is officially over and downtown Boulder is springing back to life this February—hosting a handful of excellent events on top of the plethora of Valentine’s-themed menus and events (we’ll get to those next week). From wine-blending classes and an event that’s sure to up your whiskey game, to a chili cook-off of epic proportions, here are five February events in Boulder you won’t want to miss.

1. Wine Blending Class with Jack Rabbit Hill Farms

When: Tuesday, February 2, 6-8 pm
Where: Zeal – Food For Enthusiasts {1710 Pearl Street, Boulder; 720.708.6309}
What: Jack Rabbit Hill Farms’ winemaker and farmer, Lance Hanson, will be sharing his expertise with guests of Zeal’s “Wine Blending Class” on Tuesday, February 2. Tickets range from $15 to $19 and include instruction from a master on how wine varietals work together to make tasty and interesting blends as well as a wine tasting and an appetizer or small plate.

2. Backcountry Pizza and Tap House Five-Year Anniversary Party

When: Saturday, February 6
Where: Backcountry Pizza and Tap House {2319 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder; 303.449.4285}
What: Backcountry Pizza and Tap House is turning five—and they’re throwing a big party to celebrate what they do best: serve really amazing beer. The special craft beer line-up on tap for the day features a selection of rare brews from award-winning national breweries like Melvin Brewing, Russian River Brewing, Goose Island Brewery, Cannonball Creek Brewery, Avery Brewery, and so many more. If you’re a devout fan of craft beer, this event is for you.

3. Sanitas Brewing Co. Chili Cook-Off

When: Saturday, February 6, 4pm
Where: Sanitas Brewing Co. {3550 Frontier Ave, Suite A, Boulder; 303.442.4130}
What: For the third year in a row, the folks at Sanitas Brewing Co. are hosting a Chili Cook-Off of epic proportions, with a list of competitors that reads as a who’s who in the restaurant scene in Boulder. Tickets to the Cook-Off are $15 and include a fresh brew from Sanitas, live music by the Hop Pickers, and chili samples from the following restaurants: Verde Boulder, Blackbelly, The Rio Grand Mexican Restaurant, Under The Sun Eatery and Pizzeria, The Kitchen Next Door, and The West End Tavern.

4. Know Your Whiskey

When: Tuesday, February 23, 6:30-8pm
Where: Wild Standard {1043 Pearl Street, Boulder; 720.638.4800}
What: The second in a three-part series, Wild Standard’s “Know Your Whiskey” event is meant to stoke the fire of everyone’s inner mixologist and provide a guide for the wonderful spirit known as whiskey. Tickets are $40 and include a small plate and a whiskey cocktail.

5. Oyster Month

When: The month of February
Where: Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar {928 Pearl Street, Boulder; 303.444.1811}
What: Oyster Month returns to Jax Fish House in downtown Boulder with a month catered to celebrating the amazing mollusk. For the entire month of February, 10 cents for every oyster shucked at Jax will be donated to Blue Sky Bridge—a local non-profit organization. Jax will also feature oyster specials throughout the month as well as oyster-inspired cocktails.
