Hidden Happy Hour: Via Perla

Via Perla celebrates the Italian tradition of "merenda" for its happiest hour

Merenda—it’s the Italian way to have a snack. Translating to “snack time” in Italian, this midday afternoon tradition consists of a light meal designed to satiate groaning tummies until dinnertime. At Via Perla {901 Pearl Street, Boulder; 720.669.0100}, merenda means the happiest hour.

For a year, this landed Italian restaurant has been dishing up classic Italian fare to the residents of Boulder. For the Merenda happy hour, guests can enjoy a selection of cured meats and cheeses with the Salumi e Formaggio ($7) and juicy pork and veal meatballs, i.e. Polpette Toscana ($1.50), served with the crostini of the day. The crisp chickpea pancake dusted with Pecorino, the Farinata ($4), is also a fan favorite. With happy hour snacks all under $7, mixing and matching is a must.

As far as libations go, Via Perla serves six different varietals of wine at happy hour from the Sicilian Nero d’Avola ($5) to Pinot Nero ($5) sourced from Friuli Venezia-Giulia in northeastern Italy. Want to sip and snack? Guests can choose one item from the Merenda menu and pair it with a bottle of wine for only $20. Prefer something harder? Treat yourself to $6 cocktails, including negronis on tap, or refresh yourself with the Aperol Spritz.

Sip and snack the Italian way at Via Perla.

Via Perla’s Merenda happy hour runs seven days a week from 3-6:30pm.
