Recipe: Golden Milk from Fresh Thymes

Golden Milk is having its moment, and we can thank turmeric for that. A root from the ginger family, turmeric contains an active compound called curcumin that’s celebrated for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that’s long been used in Indian cuisine and Ayurvedic medicine. Rich in flavor and health benefits, Golden Milk with maple syrup, ginger, and nutmeg is the perfect prescription for a lazy weekend. Try making it at home, courtesy of Fresh Thymes’ Owner and Executive Chef Christine Ruch’s recipe.

  • 2 c full fat coconut milk
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 Tbsp chopped ginger
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp black peppercorns
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup
  • Pinch of cloves
  • Pinch of salt

Heat a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the coconut oil. When the oil is warm, add the turmeric, ginger, and black peppercorns. Sauté for three to five minutes, making sure the ginger is just barely simmering and the turmeric is not burning. Add the coconut milk, maple syrup, nutmeg, cloves, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a simmer and cook for about five to ten minutes. Remove from heat and either use an immersion blender or a home blender to combine all the ingredients. Taste for sweetness as desired.
