Denver sports fans are filling the seats at Ball Arena, home of the 2022 Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche and the Denver Nuggets (currently number one in the Western Conference). After a less than ideal football season, we are ready to feel the excitement and pride of rooting on our home teams. To energize you before, during, and after the game, we have compiled some dining options both in and within walking distance to the arena that we recommend. Stand up, put on your gear, grab some food, and cheer on!

Coohills

1400 Wewatta St, Denver, CO 80202

Located in LoDo, Coohills creates a unique and appealing dining experience reminiscent of that found in European restaurants, focusing on local, regional, and farm-fresh ingredients. The menu focuses on the freshest food each season, including delectably tempting offerings like fresh Crudo salads, hot-from-the-oven breads, a variety of house-made pâtés and house-cured charcuterie, the restaurant’s signature crab cakes, entrées of pasta and fresh seafood, roasted game and meats, and locally grown vegetables. All desserts are made in-house, too — including ice creams, pastries, and the famous Marjolaine.

Bǎo Brewhouse

Explore their exclusive menu, offering unique specialties, including a family-style dinner over a whole fish or Peking duck with tea-infused cocktails. They provide a personal experience with Gong Fu tea service, or you may choose to enjoy some fine, hand-selected Chinese teas simply. Indulge in the environment and savor all that there is to offer.

A5 Steakhouse

If you’re balling out before heading to Ball Arena, head to A5 Steakhouse on the corner of 15th and Wazee—but don’t expect to find your typical chophouse. Eschewing dark wood paneling and dim lighting in favor of neon-splashed decor, a plethora of plants, and dapper cattle artwork, the fun and funky A5 Steakhouse is Denver’s steakhouse for the cool kids—and those kids tend to flock here no matter the night so they can sip silky martinis to wash down briny oysters slurped straight from the shell. Named for the highest quality cut of the most exquisite beef in the world, A5’s menu centers on steak, and you’ve gotta order the Japanese A5 striploin ($104) with marbling so rich, each bite just melts in your mouth. As for the rest of your meal, we’ll let you decide—can’t go wrong no matter what you choose, and if you’re feeling flush, you should consider choosing the 40 oz. tomahawk (market price, which the day we visited was around $260). We do recommend getting the macaroni and cheese croquettes as a side. If you’re in the mood for a super juicy burger, sidle up to the bar. The A5 Burger (bar menu only) features 6 oz. of waygu beef topped with griddled onions, zucchini pickles, butterkasse cheese, and special sauce, all for just $20. If that wallet-friendly price is right up your alley, time your visit to coincide with happy hour, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 daily. During this magical time, oysters are just $2.50 a pop, those aforementioned mac-n-cheesey croquettes are down to $4, and there’s a bunch of happy-hour-only dishes like the bacon-wrapped wagyu meatloaf ($12) that are calling your name.

Tamayo

1400 Larimer St, Denver, CO 80202

Carefully crafted yet boldly flavored, rooted in tradition, yet adventuring into contemporary tastes, Chef Richard Sandoval blends the earthy flavors of his native Mexico with worldly ingredients and creative cooking techniques to create modern Mexican cuisine. Located in Larimer Square, Tamayo serves nightly dinner, weekday lunch, happy hour, and weekend bottomless brunch. 

Apart from concessions, there are two options within the arena to get your fill of Denver favorites with Billy’s Gourmet Hot Dogs and Breckenridge Brewery.

The attention-grabbing orange script, “Billy’s,” on the green exterior of this restaurant welcomes everyone into RiNo on the corner of Broadway and Larimer, where you can find your fix of his gourmet hot dogs. Not stagnant to the brick-and-mortar, Billy also runs his food trucks, and food stands around town, including two at Ball Arena. Serving a variety of signature, specialty, and gourmet dogs – you’re sure to find one to satisfy your craving.
