Thirsty Lion Opens Second Colorado Location in Cherry Creek

Portland-based gastropub and grill welcomes a new Denver location

Thirsty Lion Gastropub & Grill {201 Columbine Street, Denver; 503.222.4174} is just what Cherry Creek has been missing. Its dark interior, open kitchen, and long, beautiful bar are a dream for anyone seeking something a little different in the CC area, or just a great place to watch the game. And premium finishings like all-wood-everything and plush seating make it feel grand without losing its casual edge.

Thirsty Lion Cherry Creek

We were lucky enough to pop in for dinner and were delighted by the eclectic menu, cheery service, and extensive selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. Here’s the scoop on our latest trip to Thirsty Lion Cherry Creek:

With over 40 craft beers on tap and 25 wines by the glass, there are no shortage of options here. We also loved their selection of cocktails, like the flavorful and well-balanced Grapefruit and Basil Martini and Huckleberry Lemon Drop.

Let’s be honest—we just can’t help but be hyped on a pub that serves everything from fish and chips to orange chicken and sushi. Not to mention seasonal items made with quality meats, fresh seafood, and local produce. We couldn’t believe the range of options here, so opted for some non-standard pub fare because, well, we could.

We’ve had a lot of Grilled Salmon with Risotto dishes, but this is one of the very best yet. The fish was blackened, tender, and expertly seasoned. And the risotto had an unusually generous helping of Parmesan, which is always welcome on our plates. Flavors were well developed and vegetables were crisp and delicious.

Thirsty Lion cooked the pepper bacon-wrapped Filet Mignon to our medium-rare liking with just the right amount of salt, and serves it up with irresistible cheddar mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus.

A gastropub with great dessert is music to our ears. And let us just say: this cheesecake with cookie crumble crust was, alone, worth going back for. ‘til next time!
