Sky-High Dubai: The City’s Best Rooftop Lounges

Soak in the scale of this incredible city at one of these rooftop lounges

From the dizzy heights of the Burj Khalifa to the more down-to-earth rooftops of the city’s beach resorts, residents and visitors have always been drawn upwards when the sun goes down. Dazzling views, charged atmospheres and delectable food and drinks make these rooftop lounges quintessential stops on a sky-high tour of the city.

Level 43 – Sky Lounge

Perched high above Dubai’s main artery, the open-air terrace at Level 43 – Sky Lounge {43rd floor, Four Points by Sheraton Sheikh Zayed Road; 971.56.414.2213} looks out over the entire city. Jaw-dropping views span the towers of Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah and the bright lights of Sheikh Zayed Road. Cool interiors with industrial style décor provide a laid-back venue from which to soak in the views during the summer months. On a warm day, try the Refreshing Watermelon and Feta salad with pomegranate vinaigrette, or anything else from the extensive tapas menu. A generous cocktail list features tried-and-tested classics and new creations like the Sierra Madre: a zingy combination of mescal, Aperol, lemon, chocolate bitters, and soda.

Uptown Bar

The best way to enjoy the mesmerizing color-changing façade of the Burj Al Arab is from the 24th floor terrace of Uptown Bar {24th floor, Jumeirah Beach Hotel; 971.4.432.3232}, the perfect spot for lazy cocktails and chilled out conversation. Smartly dressed mixologists pour designer drinks and a generous selection of wine and fizz, while waiters whisk plates of tapas up from neighboring South American steakhouse, La Parilla. Try the Berenjenas Mulato—roasted eggplant with tomato and chill sauce—or traditional homemade Empanadas.

There’s no need for introductions at this sky-high venue on the 122nd floor of the world’s tallest tower. Accessible through the lobby of the achingly cool Armani Hotel, you’d be forgiven for thinking the food and drink would be overshadowed by the vista at At.mosphere {Level 122, Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai; 971.4.888.3823} but in truth, the contemporary European menu from executive chef Jerome Lagarde and stellar cocktail list is just as impressive. The Espresso Martini is unforgettable. Book a table by the window for a truly atmospheric dining experience.

Iris Dubai

By day, the minimal style terrace of Iris Dubai {27th floor, The Oberoi Dubai, Business Bay; 971.4.444.1444} feels like a Scandic-Chic greenhouse. But when the sun goes down, it transforms into a pulsing venue that’s quickly become synonymous with stylish sundowners and creative gastronomy. Chefs at the raw bar prepare a delectable selection of sushi, ceviche and tartar nibbles: try the Peruvian Spicy Tuna with yellow chili. The Iris signature cocktail list features creative beverages made using seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients.

The Rooftop

A perennial favorite among many of Dubai’s well-heeled residents, The Rooftop {Arabian Court, One&Only Royal Mirage; 971.4.399.9999} is a sophisticated Arabian themed venue surrounded by swaying palms that’s cooled by gentle sea breezes; one of the best spots for intimate sundowners in the city.

40 Kong

With a cocktail menu and wine list that will blow your mind, 40 Kong {H Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road; 971.4.325.2560} hardly needs the super chic design and 40th floor views to impress, but it wins on all counts. Nibble on Crispy Canadian Lobster with horseradish sauce, before tucking into Miso Marinated Black Cod with pickled red onion and yuzu sauce. The bright lights of the city illuminate the entire scene, creating an artful wonderland high in the sky.

One of Dubai’s newest rooftop venues, Treehouse {Taj Dubai, Downtown Dubai; 971.4.318.3100} brings the indoors out. A large marble fireplace and cosy lounge furniture are conspicuously positioned on the open-air terrace of this funky Downtown haunt, which boasts awe inspiring views of Dubai Fountain and the Burj Khalifa. Feast on an artful menu of Med-inspired bites like Truffle Tempura Lobster and Crispy Sticky Beef. After dinner, try a fashionable elixir from some of the city’s top mixologiststs—we recommend the Tobacco Espresso Martini—while the resident DJ plays a soundtrack of soulful lounge beats.
