At this moment in time, when we are cleaning more than ever, it is crucial to focus on the products that we are using to clean. Traditional cleaning products, such as quaternary ammonium compounds (quats) and bleach, are full of synthetic chemicals and toxins, causing considerable health and environmental problems. Unfortunately, many people are still unaware of the harmful ingredients in these products and the significant risk and long-lasting effects these products have on their overall health.

A 20-year study recently released by the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine showed that cleaning with bleach once a day is as damaging to your lungs as smoking one pack of cigarettes a day. Another study by the European Lung Foundation found that nurses who disinfect with quats just once a week experienced a 32% increased risk of developing COPD, which is directly linked to lung cancer. The EPA recommends that many traditional household cleaners and disinfectants be avoided as they can lead to asthma, cancer, chemical burns, reproductive issues, and more. Yet in the first quarter of 2020, the number of calls to state and local poison control centers related to cleaners and disinfectants rose 20%, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

With the onset of Covid-19, it became important to readdress the way we are cleaning and the products we are using to get the job done safely and effectively. Germ management has become a part of life where there will be no room at all for being lax or cleaning with products whose long-term effects are vastly unknown. And while Covid-19 has put cleaning at the forefront, there is still significant low awareness and complacency around the harms of traditional cleaning.

At Clean Republic, we made it our mission to change the paradigm of cleaning long before the pandemic crisis hit. We have researched, studied, and worked hard to develop a healthier solution that could clean, sanitize, and disinfect safely and naturally, while maintaining the potency to kill bacteria and viruses. What we discovered through the process is Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl). HOCl is produced naturally by white blood cells in the human body as part of our immune response and can be produced outside of the body by running saltwater through an electrolysis process. It is a solution that has applications across several industries, including the medical field, where it has been shown to heal wounds and neutralize chemical burns, and agriculture, where it is used to combat molds and mildews. HOCl is nature’s science at its strongest.

And now, as the world has been rocked by this global pandemic, Clean Republic and its main ingredient HOCl, has the ability to protect the public with effective, healthy cleaning and disinfecting solutions that they can depend on.

HOCl works in three ways. As a cleaner, it can be used as often as needed to put an end to the spread of pathogens. As a sanitizer, HOCl can be used to lower pathogen pressure to what is considered to be a safe level per EPA and CDC standards. And as a disinfectant, it can be used to destroy superbugs such as MRSA, H1N1, Salmonella, Rhinovirus, Norovirus, and, because of the strength of HOCl, it is registered for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Clean Republic Disinfectant + Sanitizer has a Category IV toxicity rating per EPA standards, the same rating the EPA gives to water, placing it among the least dangerous of all disinfectants. It relies only on pure chemistry for shelf stabilization.

Clean Republic with its main ingredient HOCl, is an ideal option to incorporate into Standard Operating Procedures across different industries. It is OMRI-certified organic, which means it’s safe to use alongside food preparation in restaurants and bars. Since HOCl has the lowest toxicity rating, it can be applied through a spray bottle, fogger, or electrostatic sprayer without the need for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).

The pandemic was a wake-up call for us to do a better job at protecting each other and the planet. We want to do our part by introducing a product and ingredient that will enhance human life and bring about a better tomorrow.
