When chef Amos Watts passed away at the end of April, he not only left family and friends grieving, but his almost-opened The Fifth String restaurant as well. Now, the food and drink community aims to help with good old fashioned money as his family works to manage the property and bills associated with the eatery.

But they need customers too. That’s why on August 7 you can Dine Out For Amos Watts. Over 20 restaurants have signed up to participate, each donating a portion of sales for that day to Watts’ family, his widow Jessica and two kids, Sloane and Loren.

Right now they are looking for a new operator to take over The Fifth String, Watts’ beloved eatery. Located at 1490 Eudora St., the concept was about to enter its third, and final home. This time though, he built it from the ground up, pouring a lot of funds into the space, which sadly will never reach fruition.

As the family works on getting a buyer for the restaurant, they need some help. Here’s a list of some of the participating restaurants and donations. For an updated run and to find out who else is helping, follow The Fifth String on Instagram, @the.fifth.string.

Keep in mind, restaurant margins overall are small, and offering even five-percent of sales is huge. So when planning what you want to eat on August 7, consider choosing a place on this list and help the restaurant community, which as it turns out, is a family unto itself.

If you’re a restaurant owner who wants to join, use this link to sign up.
