Denver’s culinary scene emerges from hibernation, stretching its gastronomic muscles with a tantalizing array of events almost as diverse as the city’s meteorological mood swings. The city offers a smorgasbord of experiences that will leave one both satiated and bemused, from the tacos and tequila-induced swagger of a Cinco de Mayo block party to the existential absurdity of The Great Wait in Line Event at Casa Bonita, where Sartre’s “No Exit” meets sopapillas and cliff divers. And then there’s RARE, The Denver Steak Championship—a gastronomic gladiator match that elevates marbling and medium-rare to a near-spiritual reverence. It’s shaping up to be a busy month, and we’re here for it. The question is, where will you be?

Mon., May 1: American Elm Fundraiser @ Hops & Pie

On Monday, April 24, a heartbreaking incident occurred at American Elm in Denver’s Highland neighborhood, claiming the lives of two cherished employees, Emerall Vaughn-Dahler and Ignacio “Nacho” Gutierrez Morales. To support the victims’ families, Hops & Pie will host a fundraiser on Monday, May 1, bringing together 30+ Colorado restaurants, breweries, bakeries, and more to contribute food, beer, baked goods, and other items.

Show a $50 donation to the GoFundMe at the door as your “entrance fee.” Kids can enter for free. The event will also feature a silent auction and music by Jocelyn Skorka.

The buffet-style meal includes Hops & Pie, Smash & Grab Burgers, El Camino, Legacy Pie, Bakery Four, Cholon, Il Porcellino, Atomic Cowboy, El Chingon, Glo, Fire on the Mountain, and Jovanina’s Broken Italian. Beers provided by Our Mutual Friend, Westbound & Down, Station 26, Bierstadt, Call to Arms, Public Offering, Emporium, Cerebral, FlyteCo, and Cohesion. Distributors and other contributors include Shamrock Foods, Elite Brands, Classic Wines, Ball Corporation, and Novum Construction Group. Silent auction contributors feature Novum Construction Group, Post Oak BBQ, Small Batch Liquors, Monkey Fist Tattoo, and many more.
