The streets of Denver are embellished with green as we prepare to celebrate “St. Patty’s Day” by watching annual parades and attending celebrations around town this weekend. While the official date of St. Patrick is March 17, (to commemorate the date of his passing over 1,500 years ago) you can find festivities starting as soon as tomorrow.

Before we send you off to enjoy the holiday, here is a fun, quick history lesson, to impart some knowledge and impress your friends. While he is the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick isn’t actually Irish. He was born in the 15th century in Roman Britain (The United Kingdom) and was kidnapped and sold as a slave to Ireland at the age of 16. He was eventually able to escape and flee, however, later decided to return, and is credited for spreading Christianity and utilizing the Irish clover to explain the Holy Trinity. Now that you have these fun facts, put on your green and go celebrate!
