Denver takes breakfast burritos seriously. Consult local diners for the top burrito. Answers vary by neighborhood, chili preference, or how far you will drive before breakfast.

After publishing the 10 Best Breakfast Burritos in Denver list, DiningOut Denver asked readers to name their favorite breakfast burritos around town. The result included 50 comments and recommendations for 41 different restaurants. One name, however, rose above the rest: Santiago’s, which emerged as the most frequently recommended breakfast burrito in the conversation.

The response offers a snapshot of just how broad Denver’s breakfast burrito culture has become. From longtime institutions and neighborhood taquerias to chef-driven restaurants and 24-hour spots, the recommendations stretch across the metro area and beyond. Read on and see how your list compares to ours.

Santiago’s Sets the Standard

With multiple mentions, Santiago’s was the clear favorite among the restaurants named by readers. The Denver institution has dozens of locations across Colorado, making its breakfast burritos an accessible option for diners throughout the city and beyond.

The chorizo burrito received a specific shoutout, with one reader writing, “Me too! Love the chorizo burritos!” after another commenter mentioned making a Santiago’s breakfast burrito a regular stop.

That kind of familiarity is part of Santiago’s appeal. For many Denver diners, a Santiago’s breakfast burrito is less a special occasion than a go-to order — a familiar combination that has become part of the city’s breakfast routine. Plus, with options ranging from $3.49 to $8.05, it’s affordable too.

Burritos Worth the Drive

The recommendations did not stop at Denver’s city limits. Bonfire Burritos in Golden earned three mentions, including two enthusiastic comments from the same reader. We agree, and Bonfire made our best breakfast burrito list too. Plus, there’s also a location in Arvada.

Boulder’s Blackbelly also got a shout out, which brings a decidedly different perspective to the category. The award-winning Boulder restaurant, butcher shop and whole-animal operation from chef Hosea Rosenberg was mentioned twice, with one reader calling its breakfast burrito “fabulous.” And again, we also agreed.

In Wheat Ridge, El Aguascalientes received a recommendation specifically for its location at 41st Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard. Westminster also appeared in the conversation, with Early Bird Restaurant earning two mentions regarding the Midtown and Westminster locations.

Littleton was represented by Palenque Cocina y Agaveria and Cencalli Taqueria, while Lakewood diners recommended Hit The Spot Diner and Sunrise Sunset. Aurora appeared with Jabanero’s Mexican Grill and Taco Mex.

South Broadway (which runs from about 1st Avenue in Denver and into Englewood) emerged as one of the most notable breakfast-burrito corridors in the reader responses.

Jalapeños received two mentions, including an enthusiastic recommendation for its South Broadway location. Another commenter paired Jalapeños with Girabaldi’s Mexican Bistro in Englewood. Catrina’s Mexican Food also appeared in the responses, with its $4 handhelds standing out as an example of the value that continues to make breakfast burritos such an approachable part of Denver dining.

Affordability and accessibility were recurring themes in the recommendations. Raliberto’s Mexican Food in Wheat Ridge was singled out for being open 24 hours, giving early risers, late-night diners and everyone in between another opportunity to get a breakfast burrito.

Meanwhile, Itacate Mexican Food in Denver drew attention for a distinctive preparation: grilling crispy cheese on the outside of the tortilla. Bocaza Mexican Eatery also earned two mentions specifically for its breakfast burritos.

These metro area institutions also got a shout out: El Taco de Mexico, Señor Burritos, El Jefe, Little Anita’s, Mike’s Cafe, Fritangas, El Jardin, Gomez Burritos, Ricco’s Burritos, Venalonzo’s Tacos, Moonlight Diner, the food truck Pablito’s Burritos, Ted’z Place Restaurant and Lounge, and more.

The geographic spread is perhaps the biggest takeaway from the readers’ responses. Of 50 comments, 41 different restaurants were named, meaning there was relatively little consensus beyond Santiago’s. Rather than pointing to one single style of breakfast burrito, the responses reveal a category shaped by neighborhood loyalties and personal favorites.

Some diners are looking for spice and size, while others gravitate toward value and convenience. So in essence, Denver readers don’t really have a favorite, but they gave us a whole list of places we need to try as soon as possible.
