Baked, scalloped, au gratin, mashed, roasted, fried, etc., you know what we’re talking about. The beloved potato, brought to the Americas by the Spanish conquistadors, has become an American culinary staple. The variety of preparation methods can be enjoyed bare, salted, sauced, and completely loaded. What began as a way to use the scraps and reduce potato waste, has become a favorite and now celebrated tater tot. We all know the hashed identical cylinder shapes that we expect when placing an order, so the first time I received a plate of the square, deeper brown tots I wondered what happened to my poor little taters. Fast forward to today, and this is exactly what I’m looking for, the identifying qualities of freshly housemade tots. If you’re a fan, use this list of four restaurants serving up their housemade potato treats to guide you to some delicious tots around town.

Highland Tavern

3400 Navajo St, Denver, CO 80211

This long-standing neighborhood bar is probably the most popular on our list for their “world-famous homemade tots”. Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives even got in on the fun and featured them in season 17, episode 1.

Table 6

609 Corona St, Denver, CO 80218

The dressings on these taters, which have graced the menu for nearly 20 years, are determined by the season’s freshest ingredients. We recommend you return each season to experience all the different tasty tots.

Jill’s Restaurant & Bistro

900 Walnut St, Boulder, CO 80302

Located inside the St. Julien Hotel in Boulder, you can enjoy this casual elegant American restaurant and start with some taters. Twice-fried and served with heaven-sent aioli, they are available during lunch, dinner, happy hour, and weekend brunch.

El Jefe’s Smothered Brats and Tots

Food Truck

This yummy food truck can be found around town serving up smothered brats and tots. The best part is that there is a selection of different toppings and even a build-your-own Tot Flight.
