Choosing a wine was a fun and collaborative experience and I ultimately landed on an irresistibly playful glass of Lectores Vini winery’s ‘Pomagrana’ from Conca de Barberà in Catalonia, Spain. A blend of mostly the Trepat grape with a splash of Tempranillo for structure, the wine is halfway between a rosado, or Spanish rosé, and a light-bodied, chillable red.

April is Earth Month and it’s time to hit the streets of the Mile High City to discover delicious wines that are crafted with Mother Nature in mind.

Sustainability in wine is a broad umbrella encompassing a huge variety of practices. From organics and biodynamics to natural wine and more, we’re going green!

Dive into the details with me as we explore a lineup of delicious wines you can enjoy in Denver-area restaurants that care about what you put into your body and how it impacts our planet.

From a chillable red to the most delicious orange wine to a flavor-packed Italian red to a fizzy Pet Nat, there’s something every wine (and earth) lover can embrace this month.

Lectores Vini ‘Pomagrana’ Rosado 2021

Available at Somebody People

1165 S Broadway, #104, Denver, CO

Stepping into this bright, colorful restaurant space on South Broadway, you’re taken on an animated adventure through food, wine, and reverence for our planet. The team at Somebody People opened the doors to their “vegetable-forward dining experience” back in 2019 and have been serving up one of the tastiest, most environmentally conscious selections of food and wine in Denver ever since.

Owners Tricia and Sam Maher built the business on their dedication to highlighting fresh, locally-sourced seasonal ingredients while mitigating waste, all the while welcoming a community of like-minded people to their sunny, energetic space.

Dinner is served Tuesday through Sunday with an array of colors, textures, and flavors as intriguing as their impressive collection of over 70 wines from around the world. Like the menu, the wine list focuses on sustainably-crafted bottles from artisan producers who are as committed to their lands as the team behind the eatery.

On the palate, the wine is punchy and as jovial as its colorful packaging. With a slight effervescent from the natural ferment, the vibrant red fruit flavors of cranberry, strawberry, and pomegranate pop across the tongue. The wine is made following organic viticulture practices without the addition of sulfites and is vegan-friendly.

I paired it with Somebody People’s gnocchi entrée served with Japanese yam, carrot berbere, chermoula, and fresh radish. The rich spice flavors of the dish and perfectly pillowy gnocchi were balanced beautifully by the wine. Ten out of ten would do it again.

Sustainable Wine Practices: Organically Farmed | Vegan-Friendly | No Added Sulfites
