February starts strong with a top chef debuting in a new cooking show, a Coors tragedy, and a pink dessert no one should miss. Speaking of missing, one reader suggested we add a part to this column recommending restaurants to try this week. We liked the idea, so find the answers at the end of the article.

The 411
Chef Michael de Leon, co-owner of Molino Chido in Stanley Marketplace, is taking to the big screen. Or at least, the television screen. The chef shared he will be part of the first season of America’s Culinary Cup, a new cooking competition. The show airs March 4 on CBS, featuring chefs Michael Cimarusti and Wylie Dufresne as judges, with host and producer Padma Lakshmi.

Adobo owner Blaine Baggao took to social media after his Highland restaurant was burglarized on Wednesday, January 28. According to the chef, the thieves broke the door and stole the cash register and safe. There’s currently a GoFundMe page set up to help the restaurant and staff.
According to CBS News, hundreds of Coors Banquet cans and kegs were tossed all over Colorado Highway 58 after a semi truck tipped over last Thursday morning. While it was a tragedy for beer lovers, the driver reportedly made it without any serious injury. The truck, however, looks like someone popped the top like a cold can of beer.

Restaurants across Colorado took a stand against ICE on Friday, January 30. While most didn’t close for the nationwide protest, many expressed feelings on the current political climate. We wrote a list of some of the places here, though many more poured out sentiments on social media.
On the Menu
February is Margarita Month at Centro in Boulder. Start with a build-your-own, where you can choose from tequila or mezcal, pick a flavor, add a seasoned rim, and garnishes. You can also choose one from the staff-created menu. For example, bar manager Diego made the La Naranja, a blood orange Margarita; and general manager Ana created the El Pepino with cucumber and mint.

Toro by Chef Richard Sandoval now has a pink La Bomba, just in time for Valentine’s Day. It’s a spin on the restaurant’s signature dessert, and the pink La Bomba comes with a variety of Sweet Action ice cream scoops, cookie crumbles, brownie bits, and fresh berries. Each one comes tableside where the server spins and drops the dramatic dessert, making it perfect for everyone to share.
Head to Dio Mio, Redeemer, and Johnny Bechamel’s for the Cocktail For a Cause now until February 28. Each spot has its own version, but all proceeds go to Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition and Casa de Paz.
This Week Check Out…
With so many amazing old school restaurants and plenty of new ones opening up, sometimes the options feel daunting. Here’s some of our expert suggestions to get the week started.

Monday: After appearing on 9News this morning to talk about wings, all I want is a plate of them drenched in tangy gold sauce from King of Wings in Wheat Ridge. There’s a location in Golden too, and you can read our complete wings list here.
Wednesday: On February 4 Annette in Stanley Marketplace celebrates its 11th anniversary. That’s where you’ll find us sipping a martini and ordering steak frites while celebrating with chef Caroline Glover.
Friday: How is it the end of the week already? Kick off the weekend and pre-Superbowl parties at Maiz y Fuego in La Plaza Colorado. With tacos and pasta, it’s the best of both worlds and a great way to end the busy work week. Plus the whole plaza is worth visiting, there are food stalls, a bar, arcade, kids’ play area, and retail.
