3 Spots for Chicken Soup in Denver

Dek goes here…

Cold and flu season arrived in Denver early this year and it’s shaping up to be a doozy. While science isn’t strong enough to confirm with certainty that chicken soup is truly a miracle cure in a bowl, we can all attest that it sure can feel like one when we’re sick. Some research suggests that because sipping hot chicken soup helps clear stuffy noses, and the zinc and other minerals in chicken broth may help shorten the duration of the common cold.

A cup of the stuff can also help you hydrate, soothe your sore throat, and even may contain anti-inflammatory substances that can help relieve some of a cold or flu’s symptoms. Which is a long way of saying that if you’ve come down with the bug that’s going around, you should order some soup. It’ll help you feel better. Here are three places where you can get some of the good stuff:

Brider

1644 Platte St, Denver, CO 80202

BriDer, the casual rotisserie and seasonal market concept in the Nichols Building in downtown Denver, centers its menu on rotisserie-centric dishes straight from the state-of-the-art Rotisol oven. They top their Rotisserie Chicken Tortilla Soup with avocado, tomato, feta, and cilantro, making it a hearty, healthy choice to fuel your body’s fight against the bug. It’s available in two sizes, half for $6 and full for $10.

Just BE Kitchen

2364 15th St, Denver, CO 80202

Just BE Kitchen in Denver is a fast-casual restaurant that focuses on serving food free of gluten, grain, refined sugar, and dairy. The healthy restaurant specializes in what they call “specializes mindful mouthfuls from a conscious kitchen”—healthy comfort food that everyone can enjoy, regardless of dietary restrictions. The Warmed “Creamy” Chicken & “Rice” soup gets its cream from coconuts and its rice from cauliflower, and adds chicken, carrots, celery, and healing turmeric to the mix. It’s like a warm hug for your insides, and you could use a hug right now. A cup of the good stuff is $6.25, and it’s also available in a gluten-free bread bowl for $9.99.

Zaidy’s Deli & Bakery

600 S Holly St, Denver, CO 80246

For the last three-and-a-half decades, this Jewish deli has been the go-to spot for Denver diners seeking comforting fare. Now under new ownership, Zaidy’s menu of classic menu staples hasn’t changed—it’s just grown a bit, thanks to the addition of an in-house bakery. The Chicken Matzo Ball Soup, aka “Jewish penicillin for the soul” is as good as it ever was, which is very good indeed. You can get a bowl of it for $7. Or you could opt for the matzo-free version and go with the classic Chicken Noodle Soup, $4.75 for a cup or $7 for a bowl.
