Ease into Colorado’s wacky weather weekend with a tiki-fueled spelling bee, a fancy wine tasting, and basketball party you won’t want to miss. We’re also looking forward to special dinners, a funky show with drinks, and DiningOut for Life’s annual fundraiser.

April 16: Adult Spelling Bee: Tax Season Trauma at Adrift

From 7 to 9 p.m., Adrift brings back another installment of the Adult Spelling Bee. This time, the theme revolves around taxes. Come thirsty, bring your wits, and study up on spelling techniques. Compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. It’s first come, first served, and there’s a two-item minimum needed to compete.

April 18: Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour in Denver

For the second time this prestigious event hits Denver, taking place at the Sheraton Denver Downtown (1550 Court Pl.). The wine-tasting experience includes over 200 exceptional wines, winemakers to speak with, and plenty of bites to fuel the night. The evening goes from 7 to 9:30 p.m., with a VIP hour from 6 to 7 p.m. Find tickets and more info here

April 18 and 20: Playoff Party at Number Thirty Eight

If you’re making plans for the playoffs this weekend, Number Thirty Eight has the party for you. The large space has plenty of screens and room for a crowd, and $138 reserves a table for up to 10 people. Each reservation also comes with three-pounds buffalo wings, a 24-inch party pizza, and chips with salsa. Add on a drink package featuring a High Noon bucket, pitcher of Breckenridge Brewing beer, or pitcher of Bud Light. Book here. 

April 22: Earth Day Vegan Dinner at Jill’s Restaurant in Boulder

Celebrate Earth Day with a vegan prix-fixe dinner at Jill’s Restaurant. The evening begins with a 30-minute cocktail reception including passed appetizers. Next, enjoy a four-course meal featuring jackfruit bao, yakisoba noodles, lentil “meatballs,” and a Bavarian chocolate layer cake. Tickets are $59 per person and can be purchased here.

April 23: Amador Whiskey and Napa Cellars Wine Dinner at Hickory & Ash

Visit Hickory & Ash for a five-course Amador Whiskey and Napa Cellars wine dinner at 6 p.m. The special meal features Southern-inspired dishes made with California ingredients and paired with Napa Cellars wines and Amador barrel-finished whiskeys.Expect an amuse duo of fried pickled green tomato and Johnny cakes; followed by California almond kanuchi soup; a Southern-style tomato tart with pickled shrimp; braised pork cheeks; grilled New York strip with crab beignet; and bananas Foster cheesecake. The dinner is $150 per person, inclusive of food, pairings, tax and gratuity.

April 23: Dining Out For Life

Project Angel Heart’s annual fundraiser takes place today at locations all over the metro area. The restaurants that participate give a percentage of sales to the nonprofit, and some have ambassadors collecting donations. Find a complete list here.

April 23 to 25: 54thirty Rooftop Season Kickoff

54thirty, downtown Denver’s highest open-air rooftop bar on top of the Le Méridien Denver Downtown, is ready for the season. To celebrate, join the team during the three-day kickoff party. With extended summer hours, energetic live music and the rollout of a new cocktail menu, there’s no better way to ring in the rooftop season. Up the ante with a cabana or grab a seat beside a tabletop firepit and enjoy panoramic views.

April 25 and 26: Opening Party at Olive & Finch Golden Triangle

In honor of her fifth Olive & Finch at 1140 Bannock St., chef Mary Nguyen is hosting a grand party to celebrate. The fete runs all weekend, and includes DJs, live painting, complementary toasts, and a chance to try the refreshed dinner menu.

April 25: Ella Fitzgerald Birthday Celebration at Nocturne

Celebrate the 99th birthday of Ella Fitzgerald, the “First Lady of Song,” with The Louisa Amend Quinteton jazz band. Add on an epic three-course dinner, featuring items such as warm goat cheese salad, cassoulet du champ, and buttermilk panna cotta. Make it even fancier by booking the five-course Ellington Experience, a nod to Duke Ellington who performed regularly with Ella Fitzgerald. May 2: Second Annual Larimer Square Spring Fling

Celebrate spring with an afternoon full of bright colors, local creativity, and great bites, all in Larimer Square from 2 to 6 p.m. As a special treat, Denver’s Field Supply flower truck will have ready-made bouquets for sale, and give out free bouquets for the first 50 guests. 

Enjoy outdoor pop-up bars by Larimer Square restaurants including NADC Burger, Osteria Marco, Tamayo, and Garage Sale Vintage.

May 6: Barolo Grill Daniele Conterno Wine Dinner

Join Barolo Grill for another excellent winemaker dinner with fourth-generation master winemaker, Daniele Conterno at 6 p.m. The excerpt comes to us from Piedmont, Italy, an area known for crafting elegant, age-worthy Barolo and Barbera wines. Start the night with a sparkling Nebbiolo and beautiful Langhe Nascetta, as well as a wonderful spread by chef Darrel Truett.

May 8: Bedtime Stories at Meow Wolf

Drink and be merry at this variety show hosted by burlesque extraordinaire, Ariella May DeWitt. Think petals, pasties, bees, bunnies, all staged inside one of the most unique venues in the country. General admission starts at $34.75, with VIP front-row options available. Grab a bite to eat before or after, and enjoy cocktails, wine, and beer during the show.

Once again Death & Co Denver brings its annual Sakura Bar to The Ramble Hotel. You have almost two months to visit the cherry blossom themed spot in Suite 6A, the upstairs private room overlooking the downstairs bar. Entry is by reservation only, Sunday through Thursday, book here.
