Houston’s newest speakeasy doesn’t hide behind a bookshelf or an unmarked door—visitors will find it behind a wall of racing steering wheels.

On Friday, July 17, Velocity | Sim Racing Lounge will unveil Ignition, a hidden cocktail lounge tucked inside its Sawyer Yards location at 2110 Edwards Street. The new concept expands Houston’s first premium sim racing venue beyond the track, combining craft cocktails, upscale design, and immersive motorsports experiences in a space inspired by the world of high-performance racing.

Guests enter through a concealed doorway built into a gallery of authentic racing steering wheels from disciplines including drifting, rally, and GT3 competition. Inside, the 1,200-square-foot lounge trades the industrial feel of the surrounding venue for a polished, automotive-inspired interior designed by LOMA Architecture, complete with custom lighting, motorsports memorabilia, and a Pro Mazda race car suspended beneath a vaulted ceiling.

To develop the cocktail program, Velocity partnered with Peter Nolan, owner of the Heights whiskey bar Permission Whiskey & Service Co. His menu leans into the racing theme with drinks like the Midnight Monaco, made with Glenfiddich 16 Year Aston Martin Edition, honey and Cointreau, and the Luxe Macallan Sour, alongside an espresso martini, a floral gin cocktail, and several zero-proof options.

The kitchen complements the drinks with bar bites like seafood campechana, charcuterie boards, and Millionaire Bacon served with sweet and spicy maple dipping sauces.

Unlike most cocktail bars, however, Ignition also doubles as a racing destination. The lounge houses eight professional-grade racing simulators, giving guests the chance to swap martinis for the driver’s seat with solo or group races on virtual tracks. Racing experiences start at $20, with advanced full-motion simulators available as an upgrade.

“Some of the best moments in racing happen off the track, and that’s the inspiration behind Ignition,” said Velocity founder Viet Tran in a statement. “We wanted to create an exclusive space where guests can immerse themselves in motorsports culture, enjoy outstanding drinks and food, and ignite their passion.”

Tran opened Velocity in 2025 as Houston’s first premium simulation racing lounge. With Ignition, the venue broadens its appeal beyond racing enthusiasts. By pairing a hidden cocktail lounge with immersive racing simulators, it carves out a niche unlike anything else in Houston’s nightlife scene.

Ignition opens to guests 21 and older on Friday, July 17. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, and 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday.
