Kazzan Ramen & Bar to Close in the Heights: Houston’s Home of Volcano Ramen Says Goodbye

The Osaka-born ramen shop brought high-heat theatrics and molten stone bowls to Houston, leaving behind a brief but memorable chapter in the city’s dining scene

Houston’s ramen scene is losing a fiery favorite. Kazzan Ramen & Bar, the Heights restaurant known for its signature Volcano ramen, will close its location at 191 Heights Blvd. at the end of service on Saturday, January 24.

The announcement marks the end of an era for fans who ventured in for bubbling stone bowls, late-night slurps, and one of the neighborhood’s most distinctive Japanese comfort-food experiences

A release provided by the restaurant sends thanks from the team for the opportunity to serve the Heights community and for their support since the restaurant opened less than two years ago.

When Kazzan Ramen & Bar arrived in Houston in the summer of 2024, it didn’t just add another bowl to the city’s growing ramen roster, it brought theater to the table. The Osaka-born concept made its Texas debut in a bustling Heights-area retail strip with its now-iconic Volcano ramen, served in a searing 350-degree Celsius stone bowl and dramatically finished tableside as billowing steam mimicked a volcanic eruption. With thick noodles, customizable toppings, and flavors ranging from shio and shoyu to curry and veggie tantan, Kazzan quickly became known for its unique dining experience, amplified by an open kitchen and full bar. 

As the restaurant prepares to close, it leaves behind memories of molten bowls, communal excitement, and a moment when Houston diners eagerly leaned in to watch ramen quite literally come alive.

Before the lights go out this weekend, Kazzan Ramen & Bar is giving the neighborhood one last reason to pull up a chair. Ahead of its closing, the ramen spot is welcoming guests in for a final steamy bowl, marking the occasion with 50% off all alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, wine, sake, and beer.
