Located 30 miles west of Houston, Katy is a fast-growing suburban city that stretches across Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties. Once a small railroad and rice-farming town, Katy has transformed into one of the Houston area’s most prominent residential and commercial hubs, known for its diverse community, master-planned neighborhoods, and highly regarded school districts.

That growth is especially evident in the city’s evolving culinary scene. From classic Texas barbecue and Southern comfort food to authentic Latin American fare and one of the region’s largest concentrations of Asian restaurants in Katy Asian Town, the suburb has quietly become a dining destination in its own right.

There are plenty of reasons for Houstonians to make the short drive west, whether it’s for longtime local favorites or ambitious newcomers helping shape Katy into an increasingly dynamic foodie haven.

You’ll almost forget you’re in a strip mall in the middle of Katy once you step inside this charming daytime eatery. Chef-owner Lori Pope serves up scratch made breakfast and lunch dishes—including Belgian waffles and pancakes with a variety of toppings, and bountiful salads and sandwiches. Just about everything on the menu can be made gluten free and there is a large selection of plant-based dishes—even dessert! 336 S. Mason Rd., Katy, harvestkitchenbakery.com

In a city with no shortage of Tex-Mex restaurants, authentic Central American cuisine can be a bit harder to come by. This quaint Katy spot fills that gap with a menu rooted in traditional Guatemalan cooking. Start with the desayuno chapin, a hearty breakfast plate featuring refried black beans, fried plantains, eggs, fresh cheese, crema and warm tortillas. For a true taste of Guatemalan comfort food, order the pepián de pollo, a rich, Mayan-inspired chicken stew made with a deeply spiced red sauce thickened with roasted pumpkin seeds—widely considered one of Guatemala’s national dishes. 25551 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, elkicherestaurant.com

Da Silva Steakhouse

The extensive menu at this Venezuelan steakhouse features an array of steak cuts including picanha, porter house, and filet. The namesake 30-ounce Da Silva Flamed Ribeye arrives on a pink salt rock and is flambeed tableside. While the meats may take center stage, the Venezuelan appetizers, such as cachapa (sweet, corn pancakes) and tequenos (fried cheese sticks) almost steal the show; as does the homemade quesillo, the Venezulean version of flan.  Live music on the weekends adds to the ambiance. 20940 Katy Fwy., Katy, dasilvasteakhouse.com

Chef-owner Waseem Hilal’s love for barbecue led him to take over Chuck Wagon BBQ and Burgers, a Western-themed restaurant in Katy, in 2020. While the focus is on traditional Texas barbecue, he adds his own spin with specials like beef belly burnt ends, Dino beef ribs, and a “secret menu” that features BBQ burritos, nachos and fries. Chuckwagon also proudly offers halal meat daily. 4031 FM 1463, Katy, chuckwagonbbqburgers.com

Date nights at this upscale eatery mean dining on New American cuisine with Gulf coast flair. Think post-oak grilled steaks, gumbo, shrimp cocktail, and pecan crusted snapper. Enjoy the elegant white tablecloth dining room, or the peaceful patio that overlooks a small bayou. A daily happy hour available at the bar features Gulf oysters on the half shell, short rib sliders, and steamed mussels. 26151 Nelson Way, Katy, pearlandvinetx.com

Pho Old Town

This family-owned gem stands out for its authentic Northern Vietnamese cuisine, with flavors rooted in Hanoi, where the owner was born. The menu covers all the essentials—steamed rice platters, bánh mì and vermicelli bowls—but the real draw is the pho. Order the pho tái lăn Hà Nội, a northern-style beef noodle soup that swaps the typical raw sliced beef for wok-seared beef cooked with garlic and beef tallow. The result is an especially rich, deeply savory bowl made even more flavorful by the restaurant’s signature aromatic broth, simmered for more than 24 hours. 25551 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, phooldtown.com

Katy welcomed its first dedicated handroll bar when Handroll social debuted in late 2025. The chef-counter experience is intimate—with only 17 seats—where diners can watch as their rolls, crudo, and sashimi are prepared to order. The social sets are a good option to try several different handrolls, including spicy yellowtail, salmon, and fatty tuna. 23144 Cinco Ranch Blvd., handrollsocial.com

Southern Dough Baking Company

You’ll find this cozy” country” style cafe in the heart of historic Old Town Katy. It offers a menu of Southern classics for lunch and dinner with daily specials that include comfort plates such as chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, and pot roast. If there’s one thing to order, it’s the chicken fried steak served with housemade country gravy. There are also over a dozen sandwiches on the menu—all made with fresh bread baked in house. True to its name, there’s an array of scratch made desserts including key lime and coconut cream pies. Have it a la mode with a scoop of Blue Bell ice cream. 908 Avenue B, Katy, thesodough.com

Danny’s Peruvian

This humble family-owned spot serves up Peruvian cuisine that goes beyond the well-known dishes of lomo saltado and ceviche—although you’ll want to order those too. Delve deep into traditional fare with dishes such as causa limeña, layered and seasoned mashed yellow potatoes with chicken salad, olives, and hard-boiled eggs, aji de gallina, shredded chicken in a creamy, spicy sauce made from ají Amarillo or the anticuchos, skewers of marinated beef heart. Grab a chica morada—a sweet, purple corn beverage to complete the meal. Afterward, peruse the shelves of its small market offering Peruvian groceries. 1420 S. This casual counter-service spot channels the energy of Mexico City taquerias, where the atmosphere is lively and the food is always fresh and full of flavor. The lineup of authentic Mexican street tacos includes asada, pastor—with meats carved straight from the trompo in the open kitchen—chorizo, and carnitas. Order them “con todo” for the full experience, complete with grilled onions, chopped onions, cilantro, and salsa. There are also vegetarian and vegan options on the menu, including soy-based meats. Ask for the chili oil for an added kick. 10610 Gaston Rd., Katy
