Atlanta’s Indian and Pakistani dining scene may not command the same national spotlight as New York City’s, but it’s quietly—and deliciously—hitting its stride. As Atlanta’s South Asian community continues to grow, so does the city’s appetite for rich, aromatic curries, sizzling tandoori plates, and street snacks that taste like they were pulled straight from a bustling Mumbai night market.

From quick weeknight takeout to grand, spice-laden spreads meant for sharing, these standout restaurants prove that Atlanta is more than ready for its South Asian culinary close-up.

Tabla

Sandeep Kothary’s polished twin outposts in Midtown and Buckhead offer modern Indian cuisine with a side of glamour. Expect menu standouts like truffle Parmesan naan, paneer tikka masala, tender braised goat, lamb biryani, and crisp okra chaat, alongside creative cocktails and sleek interiors built for date nights, celebrations, and pre-show dinners just minutes from some of Atlanta’s top music venues. Chai Pani

Originally out of Asheville, Chai Pani’s Decatur outpost has become an Atlanta staple with a Michelin recommendation, thanks to its energetic streetmosphere style and suite of Indian street foods with a Southern twist. Chef Meherwan Irani’s creations are legendary—the vada pav is a particular highlight, as is anything listed on the “chaat” side of the menu. If you can’t decide what to order, pop in for the lunch buffet to fill your plate with the greatest hits. 406 W Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, chaipani.com

Bawarchi Biryanis Atlanta

While biryani is obviously a staple (13 versions, no less) at this Sandy Springs spot, Bawarchi’s menu crams more than 100 dishes into one massive case of sensory overload. Come for the saffron-spiced rice and cozy vibes, but stay for the dosas, shrimp vepudu, chicken 65, and gobi manchurian, all washed down with a mango lassi. If you order takeout, be sure to grab one of the biryani buckets to enjoy leftovers for days. 6631 Roswell Rd., Atlanta, bawarchiatlanta.com

Botiwalla

Chai Pani’s cheeky younger sibling Botiwalla channels the Irani cafes (Parsi tea houses) of chef Meherwan Irani’s childhood in India with vintage posters, colorful tins, family photos, and late-night energy—even in the middle of the day. Grilled kebabs, flatbread sandwiches, and plenty of chaat finger foods rule the menu, while creative cocktails and zero-proof sips keep things lively inside Ponce City Market. 675 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE, N134, Atlanta, botiwalla.com

Zyka: The Taste

This no-frills gem has been a mainstay of the Atlanta Indian dining scene since its doors first opened in 1997. The menus at both Decatur and Alpharetta locations stay true to owner Nooruddin Fazal’s Hyderabadi roots, serving a regional biryani with extra-long rice and an aromatic mint-lifted daal, alongside other familiar favorites. Save room for dessert—the matka kulfi (clay pot Indian ice cream) is a particular highlight. Multiple locations, zyka.com

Madras Mantra

This long-time Decatur favorite (now in Marietta, too) is a standout for South Indian cooking, but its all-vegetarian lunch buffet is the real draw. Served at a wallet-friendly price point, the flavorful spread ranges from crisp mushroom Manchurian and vibrant beet poriyal to a rich eggplant-potato curry that keeps regulars circling back. The spacious dining room and brisk buffet line make it ideal for quick lunches or lingering over a bowl of paalak dal. Multiple locations, madrasmantra.com

Mughals

Don’t let the simplicity of this strip mall joint fool you. Mughals is one of the only places in Atlanta where you’ll find homestyle Pakistani and Bangladeshi cuisine alongside Indian takeout staples. The biryani is a particular standout, though you can’t go wrong with nihari, haleem, or paya —all served in hearty portion sizes to rival any South Asian family gathering. 5265 Jimmy Carter Blvd., Norcross, mughals.restaurants-world.com

Blue India

A restaurant rarely delivers on both ambiance and food quality, but Blue India is the exception. Walking down the street in Midtown, you’ll smell it before you see it, and the flavors deliver on that olfactory promise. Moody dark-blue interiors set the tone for tandoor-cooked meats that arrive still sizzling, beautifully balanced lamb rogan josh with a touch of mint, and more than 20 curries that impress. 933 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, blueindiaatlanta.com

Karachi Broast & Grill Marietta

For those just dipping their toes into the wide world of South Asian cuisine, Karachi Broast & Grill offers a solid stepping stone. The fast-casual restaurant in Marietta specializes in handhelds with a familiar Southern spin. The chicken broast is essentially Pakistani-spiced fried chicken, while tandoori pitas and kebab rolls make for satisfying, approachable bites, best enjoyed with a side of crisp fries. 1475 Terrell Mill Rd. SE, Apt. 110, Marietta, karachibroastmarietta.com

Dil Bahar Cafe & Market

From the same husband-and-wife team behind Mughals, this no-frills Pakistani cafe in Sandy Springs is a come-as-you-are family establishment where the food is casual and packed with flavor. The chaats are crisp, the chai is fragrant, and the desserts are a must. A well-stocked grab-and-go counter lets you enjoy homemade Pakistani flavors from the comfort of your couch, or even fool your in-laws into thinking you made it yourself. 5825 Glenridge Dr. # 2-115, Sandy Springs, zafrankitchen.com/dil-bahar-caf%C3%A9-market

Dhaba BBQ

Jay Patel bridges the gap between Southern and South Asian with his beloved Atlanta pop-up, Dhaba BBQ. Drawing from his Indian roots, Patel spices up barbecued handhelds with the flavors of his childhood—think lemon pepper masala wings, masala-rubbed brisket, smoked pulled butter chicken, and tandoori pork belly. The catch is that you’ll have to find out where Dhaba is popping up next, but the social media hunt is all part of the fun. instagram.com/thedhababbq

Aroma Indian Kitchen

This cozy Roswell bistro delivers consistently flavorful dishes, including creamy chicken tikka masala, crisp tandoor-baked salmon, and freshly baked garlic naan. Friendly service and a warm, welcoming vibe make Aroma perfect for everything from date nights to family dinners, all without the fuss. 4750 Alabama Rd., #114, Roswell, aromaindiankitchenatl.com

Moon Indian Cuisine

This OTP spot shines by marrying cozy, neighborhood vibes with robust, soulful flavors. Perched in the Marietta suburbs, the unassuming restaurant draws loyal lunch buffet‑ and dinner‑goers with standout dishes like goat vindaloo that kicks (in a good way), creamy paneer tikka masala, and cheesy Parmesan naan. 2821 Chastain Meadows Pkwy NW #250, Marietta, moonindianrestaurant.com

Nalan Indian Cuisine

A flavorful tour of the subcontinent awaits at this Alpharetta restaurant. The suburban standout prides itself on offering lesser-known South Indian dishes, like paratha (layered flatbread), idli (savory steamed cake), and appam (a crepe made with fermented rice flour), alongside typical takeout staples, cooked to order. The huge array of vegetarian options makes this an ideal pick for groups, too. 5815 Windward Pkwy., Alpharetta, nalanalpharetta.com

Ghee Indian Kitchen

Miami transplant Ghee Indian Kitchen opened in West Midtown’s Star Metals District this past October, bringing chef Niven Patel’s contemporary farm-to-table Indian cuisine to Atlanta. Family-style dishes like Kerala lamb curry, duck biryani, and yellowfin tuna bhel pair perfectly with tropical cocktails, all enjoyed in the glow of warm golden lighting and Rajasthani-style décor. Can’t choose? Monday nights offer a $50 tasting menu showcasing 13 seasonal dishes. 1050 Howell Ml Rd., Atlanta, gheeindiankitchen.com

Desi Spice Indian Cuisine

This Midtown favorite is a takeout staple, but don’t miss the chance to slide into one of the ornate golden chairs and dig into North Indian classics fresh from the kitchen. You’ll find all the classics, from velvety curries and crackling tandoori to naan that hits the table still steaming. Dishes toe the line between sweet and savory with just enough spice to tickle your taste buds. 931 Monroe Dr. NE, 2nd Fl., Ste. C202, Atlanta, desispiceindianatlanta.com
