Ask Dallas where to find the city’s best burger and fries, and you’ll get more than a few opinions. When DiningOut Dallas posed the question to readers on Facebook, nearly 90 comments rolled in, naming 48 different restaurants. One thing became clear almost immediately: Dallas diners aren’t chasing flashy toppings or social media trends. They’re loyal to neighborhood institutions, nostalgic drive-ins, and locally owned burger joints that have earned repeat visits over the years.

Leading the pack by a comfortable margin was Keller’s Drive-In, the beloved old-school burger stand that has been feeding Dallas for generations. With 10 mentions, it wasn’t just the most recommended restaurant—it inspired the kind of simple, confident endorsements that only longtime favorites receive.

“Keller’s Drive-In on Northwest Hwy,” one commenter wrote, while another summed up the city’s consensus with, “Maple & Motor, Keller’s…”

Close behind was Maple & Motor, one of Dallas’ most decorated burger destinations. Seven commenters named it their go-to, including one devoted fan who admitted, “Every time I try a new place I usually end up saying we should have gone to Maple and Motor.”

Not everyone agreed, though. One reader dismissed it as “overrated” and “expensive,” proving that no burger debate is complete without a little controversy.

Just below the top two, Rodeo Goat, Sky Rocket Burger, Kenny’s Wood Fire Grill, and Burger House all earned multiple votes. Sky Rocket Burger inspired some of the strongest reactions from burger devotees, with one commenter declaring, “Skyrocket is pretty damn good,” while another chimed in, “Facts. I can’t believe no one has mentioned this yet.”

Kenny’s Wood Fire Grill also found itself at the center of a surprisingly specific debate, with fans insisting its wood-fired burger deserves more recognition than its burger-focused sibling restaurant.

Perhaps the most passionate defense came on behalf of Wingfields, the South Dallas institution that many readers described as one of the city’s best-kept secrets.

“I’m voting for Wingfields!” one commenter wrote. “Best burger in the hood!… I would put money on any burger joint that Wingfields is better.”

Those kinds of comments revealed an interesting pattern throughout the discussion. While Keller’s and Maple & Motor dominated the vote count, many diners seemed just as eager to champion under-the-radar neighborhood favorites as they were established classics.

East Dallas supporters rallied behind Burger Schmurger. Addison residents threw their support behind the Last Point and the Point. Deep Ellum earned love through Angry Dog, while Greenville Avenue loyalists mentioned Goodwins and Ozona’s.

Another surprise? National chains barely entered the conversation. Out of all the comments, only a handful mentioned brands like Whataburger, Chili’s, or McDonald’s. Dallas diners overwhelmingly favored independent restaurants, whether they were decades-old institutions or newer neighborhood gems.

The comments also highlighted the city’s increasingly diverse burger scene. Chip’s received praise not only for its burgers but also for gluten-free buns that “don’t fall apart,” while Sankofa Kitchen earned recognition for serving turkey and vegan burger options alongside traditional beef patties.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway wasn’t which burger came out on top—it was how fiercely Dallas supports its local favorites. From nostalgic drive-ins and neighborhood taverns to wood-fired grills and hidden gems tucked into shopping centers, the city’s ideal burger doesn’t come from a single style. It comes from the places that keep locals coming back.

Based on the conversation, these were Dallas’ most recommended burger spots:

  • Keller’s Drive-In
  • Maple & Motor
  • Rodeo Goat
  • Sky Rocket Burger
  • Kenny’s Wood Fire Grill
  • Burger House
  • Wingfields
  • Chip’s
  • Burger Schmurger
  • Jakes

Of course, judging by the comments, this is one debate that isn’t ending anytime soon.
