SusieCakes is bringing a little Dolly Parton sparkle to Dallas this month, complete with pink buttercream, butterflies, and a charitable tie-in.
The bakery has launched Dolly’s Decorated Cupcakes, a limited-time four-pack inspired by the country music icon, who died last month. Available through Sunday, September 13, the cupcakes benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the book-gifting program Parton founded to provide free books to children under age five. For every Dolly’s Decorated Cupcake sold, SusieCakes will donate $1 to the organization.
The $25 box includes two vanilla and two chocolate cupcakes, each topped with SusieCakes’ signature pink vanilla buttercream. Hot pink sanding-sugar butterflies finish the treats, a nod to one of the motifs closely associated with Parton throughout her career.
The partnership is in keeping with a charitable streak that has long been part of the bakery’s business. Founder and CEO Susan “Susie” Sarich opened the first SusieCakes in Los Angeles in 2006, drawing inspiration from the classic American desserts she grew up baking and eating with her grandmothers. The company has since expanded across several states, including Texas, while building community giving into its operations.
The Dolly collaboration follows another charitable campaign SusieCakes brought to North Texas just last month. Throughout August, the bakery celebrated National Dog Day with its Dog Days of Summer collection, donating $1 from every participating Frosted Sugar Cookie and PupCake sold to local shelters and rescue organizations, including Saving Hope Animal Rescue, Dallas Pets Alive!, Dogslife, and Chew Animal Clinic. The month-long promotion gave Dallas-Fort Worth customers a chance to treat themselves—and their pups—while supporting animals in need.
The Dolly cupcakes bring that same model to a cause closely associated with the singer herself. Parton launched the Imagination Library in 1995, initially providing free books to young children in her home county in East Tennessee before the program grew far beyond its original footprint.
North Texas fans can get their hands on the Dolly-inspired sweets at all three area SusieCakes bakeries: Hillside Shopping Center, at 6441 E. Mockingbird Ln.; Preston Center, at 6100 Luther Ln.; and the Fort Worth bakery, located at 1621 River Run, Ste. 151.
