The last week of August news is here, and while the weather has cooled off a little, the openings are still sizzling. There’s growth in coffee shops, some exciting anniversaries, and one robbery that cost the restaurant $8,000. Check out the end-of-summer event line up too.

The 411

Food bandits strike again. This time Annette in The Stanley Marketplace got hit, losing the equivalent to $8,000 worth goods. Last Thursday, August 22, the thieves broke into the restaurant’s outdoor walk-in, damaging it in the process. 

Avanti Food & Beverage is now expanding to Vail. The food hall first opened in Denver in 2015, followed by the Boulder spot in 2020. And, in keeping with the every-five-years pattern, the Vail location is planned for 2025.

Salt Boulder just celebrated 15 years. Founded by chef Brad Heap, the Pearl Street eatery has a dedication to sustainability and sourcing ingredients from local farmers and ranches. On a smaller scale, the food truck Mukja has been serving tasty Korean fusion eats such as cheese dogs on a stick, wonton nachos, and kimchi fries for five years. The crew will party on Saturday, August 31 from 12 to 3 p.m. at The Wandering Maven, 1169 S. Alkire St. in Lakewood, and everyone’s invited.

Nocturne Jazz in RiNo received a Music In Action grant from Live Music Society. The money will go toward making jazz more accessible to Denver’s youth with a Sunday Community Matinee. It’s just $10 per person to attend, and there will be discounted food and drink.

Openings and Closings

Rosso Pomodoro opened its first stateside pizza joint a few months ago in Denver, and now there’s plans to launch a second location. While the exact date is unknown, it will be in the Arapahoe Marketplace at 8575 E. Arapahoe Rd. in Greenwood Village.

Coffee shops are on the rise. Blue Sparrow Coffee opened its third location, while Queen City Collective Coffee launched its fifth spot today at 1675 Larimer St.

Ollie & Parks quietly opened in Uptown. Owner Jason Alfonso is serving small, tapas-style plates for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. Whit’s End will open in the former Scott’s Market space at 1736 E. 31st Ave. in Denver. It will be a causal neighborhood dinner and Sunday brunch spot by the same family who own Red Square Bistro downtown.

Also new, Chef Russ Fox, formally of Coperta, now has a farm-to-table eatery in New Image Brewing at 5622 Yukon St. in Arvada. Dubbed TABLE, the official opening is soon. 

After 19 years, Crêpes’n Crêpes in Cherry Creek shuttered. Over in Stanley Marketplace, the cute sweets stand Churreria de Madrid closed to make room for a new, to-be-determined concept. 

Downtown is losing one of a few food and live music venues left in the city. Edible Beats (Root Down, Vital Root, Linger, El Five) announced it sold Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox and will stop service by September. 

On the Menu

Starting Tuesday, August 27, all Snooze A.M. Eatery locations will roll out a new line up of breakfast goodies. Look for three omelet additions, pumpkin pancakes, drinks, a change to the restaurant’s signature pancake flight, and an all-day happy hour menu during the weekdays.

Are you a Phish fan? Steuben’s in Uptown celebrates the band with a full menu inspired by Phish starting on Thursday, August 29. Visit the website to find out all the details as the chef releases the menu. 

Tap & Burger locations have a new happy hour running Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m., and Monday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. Specials include $6 buffalo chicken wrap or sandwich, $1.50 jumbo wings, $6 smash burgers, $5 Westbound & Down IPA, and $5 Margaritas, Spritzes, Cosmopolitans, and Tom Collins, to name a few. 

Events In the News

Book a seat at chef Cheyenne Langis’ Stuzzi pop up on Tuesday, August 27, location TBD. There are two seatings, one at 5:30 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m. Book online through stuzzi.denver Instagram, reservations at $125 per person.

EatYa Pizza is ready to party down and celebrate the end of construction of the 16th Street Mall with a block party on Thursday, August 29 from 11 a.m. t o 5 p.m. There will be a DJ, games, drink specials, and of course, pizza.The eatery also has a sweepstakes running now through August 31, giving fans a chance to win a pizza a day for the entire year. Entry is $75, which not only gets your name in the hat, but helps support the small business. Enter the sweepstakes here

Tea Street, a family-owned bubble tea shop, debuts a second shop at the end of the month in Parker at 16524 Keystone Blvd. To celebrate, on the weekend of August 30 and 31, there will be an epic opening party complete with samples, custom friendship bracelets, live music, and a chance to win an exclusive tea ceremony and tasting. Head to Colorado Springs for an epic truffle dinner at Cloud Camp at The Broadmoor. Starting September 1 through the end of the  2024 truffle season, roughly early November, the eatery will celebrate with menu items including  Eagles Nest Ranch Wagyu Tenderloin, Truffle Potato Soup, and Truffle Stuffed Roasted Colorado Chicken.

This year the Den Corner Rooftop Party takes place on September 3 and 4. Hosted by Sushi Den, over 30 chefs will be flown in from Japan to make the celebration happen. The two-day festival features tons of Japanese street food, sake, beer, cocktails, and more. Each $195 timed ticket is good for one day, reserve one here. Bonus, a portion of the proceeds go to We Don’t Waste.
