FreeRange Concepts, the hospitality group behind Texas mainstays the Rustic and Bowl & Barrel, has officially planted its flag in Houston’s growing sports-and-play scene with the debut of Birdies Icehouse. Now open at 65 Hirsch Road within East River 9, the new concept anchors the golf-and-social destination along Buffalo Bayou in the East End, just minutes from Downtown.

Billed as an icehouse-first bar and restaurant, Birdies pairs casual, crowd-friendly fare and hand-crafted cocktails with serious game-day energy. The draw, however, extends well beyond the bar: the venue is home to Houston’s only lit, 9-hole, par-3 golf course, along with a driving range, putting green and pickleball courts—all set against sweeping skyline views.

“Birdies Icehouse was created to be a true icehouse in both feel and function,” said Kyle Noonan, co-owner and CEO of FreeRange Concepts, in a press release. “The focus is cold drinks, big screens and plenty of room to settle in—especially at sunset along the bayou. You can host a corporate event, stop by for happy hour, or catch a game. The space supports all three equally well.”

Built with entertaining in mind, Birdies brings more than 25,000 square feet of flexible event space to the East End, accommodating gatherings from 20 guests to more than 3,000. Between the fully lit course and range, pickleball courts, lawn games and multiple large-format screens, the venue positions itself as a ready-made backdrop for corporate meetings, team-building outings, watch parties, charity tournaments and milestone celebrations alike.

Birdies Icehouse is now open daily, with hours running Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The venue also leans into its all-day hangout appeal with an extended happy hour Monday through Friday until 7 p.m., plus all-day happy hour on Sundays. On weekends, breakfast is served Saturday and Sunday through 2 p.m., giving early golfers, casual brunch crowds and game-day revelers an easy reason to start the day on-site.

Birdies Icehouse is marking its arrival in fine fashion with a public celebration on Wednesday, March 18, inviting Houstonians to get a first taste of the new icehouse experience. Festivities will roll out in the late afternoon and carry into sunset, offering an easy introduction to the space’s golf, games, and game-day energy along Buffalo Bayou.
