The team behind Houston’s Street to Kitchen is once again stepping beyond the dining room, this time serving hundreds of daily meals to frontline airport workers through José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen Chef Corps.

The acclaimed Thai restaurant, led by husband-and-wife team Graham Painter and Benchawan Jabthong Painter, is currently preparing roughly 400 meals a day for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) staff at both Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental airports. The effort comes as TSA workers continue reporting to duty without pay, ensuring airport operations and traveler safety remain uninterrupted.

The week’s menu has unfolded as a steady rotation of comforting, thoughtfully prepared meals. Saturday began with garlic chicken and rice, followed by Sunday’s teriyaki meatballs served alongside carrots and brioche. On Monday, penne pasta with chicken, vegetables, and tomato sauce took center stage, while today’s offering featured chicken sausage with chili and sweet peas. Tomorrow, the kitchen returns to a classic: chicken and rice.

As of now, the team is serving every day, delivering to both airports. Graham told DiningOut, “We are going strong as long as we are needed!”

For Street to Kitchen, the partnership is a natural extension of its ongoing relationship with World Central Kitchen, the global nonprofit known for rapid-response food relief in times of crisis. During Houston’s historic winter freeze in 2021, the restaurant provided hundreds of meals to residents facing power outages and limited access to food. More recently, the team helped coordinate restaurant relief efforts in Myanmar following the devastating 2025 earthquake, which left hundreds of thousands without reliable access to food and clean water.

“We wanted to show our gratitude to the TSA workers who are showing up without pay and keeping us safe,” said Graham. “World Central Kitchen is there for people when in most need and we are honored to help out.”

Benchawan, aka “Chef G”, echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the broader responsibility of the hospitality industry. “World Central Kitchen is the best of who we can be as chefs and restaurant owners, feeding people when they most need help,” she said in a release.

While Street to Kitchen has built a national reputation for its bold, regional Thai cuisine—earning Chef G the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Texas in 2023—its continued involvement with World Central Kitchen underscores a deeper mission rooted in service, community, and showing up when it matters most.
