Ten years in, Kirby Ice House’s Upper Kirby location has become the kind of place where time seems to collapse—in the best way. A quick drink turns into hours, a casual meetup becomes a standing tradition, and before you know it, a decade has passed with the same familiar energy still buzzing across its sprawling patio. As the flagship location at 3333 Eastside marks its 10-year anniversary this spring, the milestone feels less like a marker of longevity and more of a testament to its consistency.

“The thing I like most about Kirby Ice House is that there is something for everyone,” said co-owner and founding partner Danny Evans. “If you ask 10 of our customers why they come here every week, you may get 10 different responses.”

Since opening in 2016, Kirby Ice House has drawn crowds with its expansive indoor-outdoor space and robust bar program—a place where Astros wins are celebrated, college football Saturdays come alive, and weekday happy hours often turn into something more memorable. Its enduring appeal lies in its versatility.

“Ten years ago, Kirby Ice House started as a simple idea, to create a place where people could gather, connect, and enjoy a great experience without overcomplicating it,” said chief operating officer Michael Johnson. “This milestone isn’t just about our growth; it’s about the relationships, memories, and moments that have happened on our patios over the past decade.”

That simplicity has proven to be the bustling bar’s greatest strength, allowing it to scale without losing its identity. What began in Upper Kirby has since expanded across Houston, with locations in the Woodlands, the Heights, and the Memorial District, and more on the horizon—including a forthcoming Clear Lake outpost near Johnson Space Center. Yet even as the footprint grows, each location retains a sense of place, shaped by the neighborhood it serves.

To commemorate its milestone anniversary, the Upper Kirby location is hosting a free anniversary celebration on Saturday, April 18, from 5 to 10 p.m. featuring a live set from DJ Senega and live performance by party band MegaFly; a rotating lineup of food trucks, and a crawfish boil with all the fixings.

With a decade of memories behind it and more on the horizon, the story of Kirby Ice House is still being written. In a city that rarely slows down, the beloved hangout has managed to bottle something rare: a sense of permanence, wrapped in cold beer and open-air camaraderie.
