Pearland’s Best Restaurants: Where to Eat in Houston’s Fast-Growing Suburb

South of Houston lies the city of Pearland. Once an area of pear orchards and oil fields, it has seen significant growth in the past 20 years, fueled by residential developments and economic expansion. The rise in population brought new businesses in healthcare, manufacturing, and retail development. 

All of these good folks moving to Pearland needed sustenance as well. With commercial and residential development thriving, a number of talented chefs made their way south to open restaurants. Locals no longer had to make the drive into the city for great barbecue and Tex-Mex. 

This list of standout Pearland restaurants isn’t just for locals—many are well worth the drive for inner-loopers.

Crawfish Café

Crawfish Café has built a loyal following for its bold Viet-Cajun flavors and flavorful seafood boils. The restaurant’s signature crawfish arrives tossed in rich, buttery sauces packed with garlic, spice, and citrusy kick. Beyond the boils, the menu spans beer-battered cod tacos, salt-and-pepper shrimp, po’boys piled with shrimp, oysters, or catfish, and the restaurant’s famously garlicky noodles. Pitmaster and owner Ronnie Killen is the de facto culinary king of Pearland. Few restaurateurs have had such an effect on a town’s dining reputation as this Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef. Opened in 2014, the eponymous restaurant grew out of the original barbecue joint Killen opened in his 20s. After successfully debuting Killen’s Steakhouse in 2006, he returned to his passion for Texas barbecue with the opening of Killen’s Barbecue. Numerous awards and national recognition have fueled its success, but it’s the peppery prime brisket and massive beef ribs that stand out to many fans. Grazia Italian Kitchen

Adrian Hembree opened this neighborhood favorite more than a decade ago, and it quickly became a suburban hotspot for Italian fare. A wood-burning pizza oven anchors the dining room, which also includes a semi-private space for gatherings. The lasagna egg rolls with Wagyu meat sauce make a playful starter, while the pizzas shine on both the lunch and dinner menus. For Sunday brunch, the Boss Hogg pizza—topped with eggs, Italian sausage, and pork shoulder and finished with 40-clove garlic cream gravy—is a crowd favorite. Killen’s Burgers

With an interior straight out of a Happy Days episode—complete with a jukebox and chrome diner chairs—Ronnie Killen’s burger palace serves retro vibes alongside modern burger flavors. The Angus beef patties are served on toasted, buttered buns, resulting in picture perfect burgers with mega flavors. From a simple hamburger with Killen’s signature sauce, to a fancy truffle aioli cheeseburger, there’s a burger for everyone. And for those not into burgers, the brisket grilled cheese and fried chicken sandwich are tasty alternatives. Handcut fries are the go-to side, but onion rings and cheese curds are yummy too. 2804 S. Good Vibes Coastal Kitchen

This Pearland eatery stands out with its clapboard siding and beachy palette of white, blue, and pale turquoise. Inside is an island getaway, complete with ocean murals and nautical décor.  A spacious covered patio makes the perfect perch for slurping raw oysters or digging into crawfish. The appetizer lineup alone satisfies snack cravings with bites like avocado tuna tacos, cheese curds, and a trio of deviled eggs. While seafood favorites such as fried shrimp and Baja tacos dominate the menu, the signature burger—made with RC Ranch Wagyu and topped with smoked Gouda and vibin’ sauce—is one of the restaurant’s most popular picks. Krack Kitchen Express

Located in the Swift gas station, this take-away spot from young chef, David Netter, is generating quite a bit of social media buzz. The kitchen delivers Cajun and Creole flavors with creative items like jambalaya pizza and Kajun shrimp and grits. There are also po’boys and a cheesy Mardi Gras pasta with shrimp and sausage. During the week, it opens at 6 a.m. with a breakfast menu of tacos, breakfast sandwiches, and chicken and waffles. No need to drive into the city for great Japanese food when you have this upscale restaurant in the Pearland ‘burbs. Nishiki’s sleek interior includes a 12-seat sushi counter and a full bar. Guests can start with grilled edamame, seaweed salad, or creamy rock shrimp, before sampling through its menu of cold and hot bites like yellowtail carpaccio and truffled fried rice. There’s a good-sized selection of maki, as well as nigiri, sashimi, and temaki. Magnolia Cajun Comfort

Executive chef Steve Haug has crafted such a tempting menu at this family-owned restaurant that it’s wise to bring a companion willing to share. Start with the appetizer sampler—fried green tomatoes, bacon-wrapped shrimp, boudin balls, and crawfish pies—and you won’t regret it. From there, the toughest decision may be choosing between the chicken and sausage gumbo or chef Steve’s seafood soup. This lively Italian cafe feeds guests like family, literally. For three to four people, the Tuscan feast offers lasagna, chicken parm, and fettuccine alfredo, plus salad and garlic bread. Pair it with Mama’s appetizer sampler and it will be a true family feast. There are plenty of a la carte entrees such as penne Riviera, with grilled shrimp, and a selection of sub sandwiches such as veal parmigiana. Jax Burgers 

The Pearland community must seriously dig the food and handspun shakes at Jax Burgers, because there are three locations of this family-owned eatery in the area. The classic Jax burger is tasty on its own, but diners can add chili, bacon or avocado for an extra charge. Noodle Master

Handpulled noodles are what make the Northern Chinese cuisine at this restaurant special, along with a few spicy dishes that are mouthnumbing. The menu includes snacks like pork dumplings and dry fried spicy chicken popcorn, plus noodle soups such as the spicy beef noodle soup and black garlic tonkatsu ramen. The Monk’s Indian Bistro

With a dozen locations across Texas and beyond, this small Indo-Chinese chain has found a strong footing in Pearland. From paneer dumplings and manchow soup, to goat vindaloo and Manchuria chicken, Monk’s offers diners a global toe dip into the waters of Indian and Chinese fusion. Guests can pair a cold beer or glass of wine with the green chili chicken or try a mango lassi with the goat biryani. Cafe Petra

This halal restaurant has eight locations across the Greater Houston area, including two in Pearland, serving Lebanese and Greek cuisines. Diners can drop in for a quick lunch of chicken shawarma or gyro pita, or linger over a shared dinner of mezze and kabobs with a group. Killen’s Steakhouse

Founded in the spot that currently houses Killen’s burger restaurant, Killen’s premier steak restaurant was on the forefront of a yet-to-emerge dining scene in Pearland when it debuted in 2006. The steakhouse outgrew its original location and moved to its current home on Broadway in 2015. Steak offerings range from wet-aged filet mignon for $64 to an eye-popping Australian wagyu long bone ribeye for $275. Other steakhouse fare includes bacon-wrapped scallops, smoked Kurobuta pork belly, and a black truffle beef Wellington that would put Gordon Ramsay’s to shame. 6425 Broadway St., Pearland, killenssteakhouse.com
