The 411

Fielding’s River Oaks enters a new chapter today with the debut of Fielding’s STEAK, a reimagined take on the restaurant that leans fully into a chef-driven steakhouse identity. The revamped concept introduces a refined menu built around prime and dry-aged steaks, premium Wagyu, elevated seafood, and plenty of Southern flair.

The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is sharpening the Live at the Founders Club Series with a new, chef-driven menu from James Beard Award–winning chef Chris Shepherd. Available exclusively with the intimate music series, the menu debuts during Modern Folk – Multicultural Roots, starring the American Patchwork Quartet on the weekend of January 30 and 31. Designed to match the series’ cabaret-style format, Shepherd’s offerings focus on approachable dishes, like birria taquitos, cool cucumber salad, and seafood sliders, meant to be enjoyed comfortably during the performance. Shows take place inside the Founders Club, an event space atop the Hobby Center that transforms into a club-like setting with table seating, food service, and drinks throughout the evening. Since launching in 2023, the series has aimed to create a more immersive experience, and the addition of Shepherd’s Houston-rooted menu further cements that vision.

Buck & Rider, the Scottsdale-born seafood restaurant known for its just-caught fish and lively coastal energy, is heading to Houston. The Arizona favorite has signed on for a roughly 9,200-square-foot space at Central Park Post Oak, where it will anchor a freestanding, patio-equipped “jewel box” location at the corner of Post Oak Boulevard and Ambassador Way. Slated to join dining neighbors The Henry and Sparrow Italia, the new restaurant will bring Buck & Rider’s signature mix of flown-in daily seafood, reserve beef, craft cocktails, and brunch-friendly hospitality to Uptown.

Happenings

il Bracco is adding a new reason for wine lovers to mark their calendars. The restaurant is rolling out a bimonthly wine-pairing dinner series, with events scheduled for January, March, May, July, September, and November—each designed to spotlight a standout producer alongside a multi-course menu. The series launches Wednesday, January 28, with an evening dedicated to the storied wines of Ornellaia, the acclaimed Italian estate celebrated for its coastal influence and natural affinity for food. The five-course dinner leans into bright winter flavors and Mediterranean sensibilities, beginning with a seafood-forward crudo and moving through citrus-laced salads, handmade pasta, and wild-caught swordfish before ending on a citrus-kissed dessert paired with Ornellaia’s flagship red. The cost is $150 per person, and reservations can be made at 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 8 p.m. via OpenTable.

Abbas Dhanani, founder of Burger Bodega, is spotlighting family, food, and community with For The Culture, a one-day pop-up in collaboration with PX Project Houston on Saturday, January 31. Hosted at PX Café, the event centers on an exclusive menu developed by Dhanani alongside his mother and aunt, drawing directly from Pakistani dishes and family recipes that shaped his childhood and culinary perspective. The pop-up also brings together Houston favorites Underground Creamery and Pudgy’s Fine Cookies, with proceeds benefiting PX Project Houston and its work supporting young adults through career exploration, workforce development, and life-skills training.

B&B Butchers is channeling the spirit of New Orleans this February with a Mardi Gras–themed brunch celebration. On Saturday, February 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Houston steakhouse will transform brunch service into a Carnival-style affair, pairing bold Cajun flavors with festive flair. The menu leans into Louisiana classics, including crawfish beignets with Cajun dipping sauce, chicken and andouille gumbo, Cajun shrimp with blue cheese grits, and bourbon bread pudding finished with caramel sauce. A lineup of celebratory cocktails—from Hurricanes to French Quarter Crustas, Bramble Berry Sours, and La Rosette—will keep the good times flowing, and guests can expect live Zydeco music, colorful photo ops, face painting, and Mardi Gras swag throughout the afternoon. Reservations are available via OpenTable.

Southern Smoke Foundation is bringing its signature wine auction back to Houston this spring with the return of Decanted, the nonprofit’s annual tasting and live auction benefiting food and beverage workers in crisis. Set for Saturday, March 28, from 2 to 6 p.m., at Lott Hall, the event gathers an all-star lineup of chefs, vintners, and industry tastemakers for an afternoon of food, rare wines, and spirited bidding. Chaired by Chuck and Vanessa Ames and themed “Yachty by Nature,” the reception will feature bites from Houston’s six Michelin-starred restaurants, showcased by Emmanuel Chavez of Tatemó, Felipe Botero of Le Jardinier, Felipe Riccio of MARCH, Luis Roger of BCN, Mayank Istwal of Musaafer, and Will and Nicole Buckman of Corkscrew BBQ. A limited number of individual tickets, a more flexible option to tables, are available for purchase

On the Menu

Michelin-starred Le Jardinier, tucked inside the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is once again bridging the worlds of art and dining with the latest installment of its Culinary Canvas series. In celebration of Frida: The Making of an Icon—the MFAH’s highly anticipated exhibition on view through Sunday, May 17—the restaurant has introduced a new dessert and cocktail inspired by the life, symbolism, and visual language of Frida Kahlo. Created by executive pastry chef Salvatore Martone and pastry chef Tiffani Gkaris, the floral-forward In Bloom dessert and mezcal-based Trazo Rojo cocktail translate Kahlo’s enduring influence into flavor, color, and texture, offering diners a way to extend their museum experience from the gallery into the dining room. The pairing is available for the full duration of the exhibition.
