Tago, a new Tulum-inspired restaurant featuring modern Latin cuisine and an inspired cocktail menu is now open at 1120 Dennis Street in Midtown. The restaurant’s unique design feels like a Mexican beach escape with lush tropical greenery, an open-air patio, and a bar that mimics a hidden cenote. Led by chef Kristi Courtney, Tago’s full food menu is served until 11 p.m., and features snacks like flautas, ceviche, and charred poblano guacamole, and heartier dishes like mushroom risotto and grilled quail in mole. Guests visiting after 9 p.m. can expect a shift in the atmosphere with a DJ and dancers, and an abbreviated menu offered until 1:30 a.m.

Bar Madonna has debuted inside the Marlene, a charming new bed and breakfast located at 109 Stratford Street in Montrose. The concept combines Parisian elegance and style with New Orleans soul in a space with hand-painted ceilings, inspired by the Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris; an antique French chandelier, and a dramatic marble fireplace sourced locally from a River Oaks estate. With only 12 seats at the bar, guests can explore the sunroom, garden room, and oak-lined patio for added seating as they imbibe.

Mambo Seafood is now open in Willowbrook at 7728 FM 1960 Road West. Along with its popular fried seafood platters and boils, diners can look forward to a new lineup of summer ceviches that will hit the menu on Tuesday, July 1.

Happenings

Goode Co. Armadillo Palace has released its concert line up for July, with live performances in the Hall by Reese Goode on Friday, July 11, Jacob Stelly on Saturday, July 19, and Slade Coulter on Friday, July 25. During the live music acts, guests are welcome to order dishes and drinks from the restaurant menu, like campachana and Damn Goode margaritas. Tickets can be purchased in advance, or on the day of, and are limited to guests 21 and up.

Superica is honoring Watermelon Week with a slew of watermelon-inspired offerings, available from Friday, August 1 through Friday, August 8. Expect watermelon margaritas, served frozen and on the rocks; a Mexican candy cocktail; and a watermelon salad.

On the Menu

Etoile has launched a new ‘this-is-living’ prix fixe business lunch menu, available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday until July 31. The two-course, $24 menu features options like lobster bisque, beef tartare, coq au vin, filet of sole, mushroom ravioli, and more, with the option to add on dessert for $4 more.

Rumi’s Kitchen has launched happy hour, now offered on weekdays from 4 to 6 p.m. Coined “Eshgho Hal”, highlights of the menu include $10 cocktails, $11 Turkish flatbreads, and grape molasses and habanero glazed sticky wings for $12.

Uchiko has introduced a new three-course, $25 prix fixe lunch special, offered daily from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Guests can choose from options like hama chili and gem lettuce salad for their first course, and chicken karaage or the Uchiko burger with beef fat fries for a second course. A seasonal sorbet is given as the final course, but guests can opt to substitute a seasonal tart or the cheesecake for $5.

JINYA Ramen Bar is offering a chilled tan tan men bowl at all Houston locations through the month of August as one of its chef’s summer specials. The summer-exclusive dish combines thick noodles in a chilled, savory chicken soy broth infused with sesame, and topped with pork soboro, baby bok choy, shredded leek, sesame seeds and chili oil.

For its next taco-for-a-cause partnership benefitting Southern Smoke Foundation, Little Rey is joining forces with Riel’s chef Ryan Lachaine to feature a honey walnut crawfish taco throughout the month of July. The handheld is made with tempura fried crawfish tails, candied walnuts, shredded cabbage, and pea shoots. 100% of proceeds from every taco sold will be donated to SSF.
