To celebrate all things dogs and restaurants, we invited industry professionals to send in photos and information about their beloved pets. Turns out having a dog in NYC isn’t easy, but these four industry pros have committed to their furry friends.

Lucky

Human: Oya Mungan, co-owner of Foursome Restaurant

Breed: Havanese and Terrier mix

How long have you been together? 10 years

Tell us something about your dog: Lucky was rescued from the streets of Turkey. I saw his photo, immediately fell in love, and somehow convinced him to take a 12-hour journey all the way to NYC to come live with me.

At first, he had a few trust and adjustment issues, which is understandable after such a big life change. But today he is officially the sweetest, calmest, and most spoiled dog in the world. Since food is basically the center of his universe, we’re pretty sure he must be a Taurus. His absolute favorites are bacon and chicken, and he takes both very seriously.

For the past 10 years, Lucky has gone almost everywhere with me. He is basically my shadow, travel companion, and unofficial business partner. And if you visit Foursome, keep an eye on the walls—you might spot his portrait there too.

Human: Daniel Piccioto, owner of Pinky Swear

Breed: Yorkie mutt

How long have you been together? 7 years

Tell us something about your dog: Bamm-Bamm is the sweetest yorkie mutt in the whole world! I adopted him even years ago and my favorite thing about him is how discerning his palette is. He’ll never say no to a flank steak but if a T-bone or a Dover sole hits the table, you’re sure to see his adorable little head pop-up.

Human: Ali Rosen, cookbook author and host of Potluck with Ali Rosen

Breed: Rescue so no idea, but toy poodleish?

How long have you been together? Since February 11, 2024

Tell us something about your dog: Lily is basically Velcro. Wherever I am, she is too. If I’m writing she’s snuggled on the chair next to me, if she’s cooking she’s at my feet!

Nala

Human: Alexandra Tangen, owner of KABIN

Breed: Chihuahua, Dachshund and pitbull mix, with a little German Shepherd and Pyrenees Mountain Dog somehow thrown in there too

How long have you been together? Nala and I have been together for almost three years! I started fostering her in November 2023 and, within about a week, completely foster-failed and officially adopted her. There was really never much hope of me giving her back.

Tell us something about your dog: She’s a small dog with huge ears, but when she barks she sounds like a dog about five times her size. It always confuses people outside our apartment

because they’re expecting a huge dog behind the door, only to find little Nala on the other side.

She’s incredibly friendly and the ultimate bar dog. I fostered her right as I was starting the KABIN project, so she came to all the early site visits and was by my side throughout construction, keeping me company through the whole process.

She absolutely loves KABIN and is very much our resident KABIN dog. If we leave our apartment and start walking in that direction, she knows the route completely and will basically pull me all the way there.
