A new po’boy shop is in town, and I can’t wait to visit it. Also in this week’s restaurant news, we are excited for a scrumptious brunch spread, which comes with a side of pickle ball. There’s also a new chef with a side of ping pong, and family dinner with a side of, well, rotisserie chicken.

The 411
Bring Home the Chicken
We hinted to the news of Heretik serving a rotisserie chicken dinner to go, and now, it’s a reality. Order the $100, family-style Chicken Dinner for four, which includes a whole chicken, fries, sauces, a large salade verte, and two slices of the delightful Basque-style cheesecake. You can also add on a bottle of wine. Online ordering available here.
Po’Boys Make the Scene
It’s not everyday when a lauded chef in Denver turns to making po’boys, that loaded New Orleans sandwich often found in gas stations and bars. Yet, Kenta Kamo of Temaki Den is popping up in the former Acorn/Bellota space in Source with Isaac Woo to launch Poor Boys Louisiana Po’boys and Kitchen. Both chefs were born and raised in Baton Rouge, and with this concept they’re giving a little taste of home to the Mile High.
“Our goal is to offer authentic, affordable, and high-quality po’boys,” said Kamo. “Similarly to Temaki Den, our focus is on simplicity done right [and] focusing on each ingredient and attention to detail in execution.”
To make the sandwiches, the team started directly importing seafood from Louisiana. They are also using local vegetables and ingredients, and sourcing the majority from Colorado farms and ranches such as Switch Gears Farm, Croft Family Farms, and Miraflores Wagyu.
Visit the pop-up is going on now and through September, Thursday to Monday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., at The Source Market Hall (3330 Brighton Blvd.) in Denver.
New Chef Served
After years working as a sous chef, Kevin Chu will take the reins at Ace Eat Serve in Uptown. Chu will bring dishes inspired by his Taiwanese heritage to the pan-Asian menu. News is the 14-year-old restaurant will still serve crowd favorites like the Tiger Wings and Peking Duck. However, now guests can also get Chu’s Mapo Tofu and Salt and Pepper Chicken.
National Glory
Boulder’s Casa Juani has just been named as one of Bon Appétit Magazine’s 19 Best New Restaurants in America. Run by chefs Eduardo Valle Lobo and Kelly Jeun, Casa Juani opened in February. We’re also predicting it will get a little Michelin Guide recognition. Either way, it’s the only Colorado restaurant that the prestigious magazine awarded this year, so congratulations to the team!
