St. Patrick’s Day festivities continue through this weekend, giving you another opportunity to party around town, guzzle green beer, and delight in some food specials. Last week we gave you a list of celebrations to attend and dropped the quick fact that St. Patty isn’t Irish (*gasp*).

Today, we’re bringing you the origin of the popular seasonal dish created by Irish immigrants: corned beef and cabbage. Millions of immigrants had escaped the great famine in the late 19th century by fleeing to the Americas with little to no money. Being frugal with their income, they deviated from their pork and potato diet to beef and (essentially a filler) cabbage. If you have come to love this sensible dish, here are five spots that can feed your craving on National Corned Beef and Cabbage Day on March 17th.

The Abbey Tavern

5151 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80220

Finley’s Pub

375 S Pearl St, Denver, CO 80209

The Irish Rover Pub

54 S Broadway, Denver, CO 80209

The Pig & The Sprout

1900 Chestnut Pl, Denver, CO 80202

Slattery’s Pub & Grill

5364 Greenwood Plaza Blvd, Greenwood Village, CO 80111
