The 411
Dominic + Gertrude = Tony
Actor Dominic Sessa, who plays a young Anthony Bourdain in the new film Tony, recently said that to prepare for the film he spent time in the kitchen with Eli Sussman at Gertrude’s in Brooklyn. He also said that two of his favorite restaurants in New York are Caribbean spot Miss Lily’s 7A and the Palestinian restaurant Ayat.
Happy Camper
Beloved West Village neighborhood restaurant, Mary’s Fishcamp, closed in 2024, leaving many locals disappointed, including regular Sarah Jessica Parker. We can all cast our joy at Hudson Street in the West Village and get hooked on Mary’s catch of the day, as the restaurant has just re-opened in a new location at 626 Hudson St. at Jane Street.
Goop for You
Gwyneth Paltrow’s brand Goop is now a full-fledged restaurant. Earlier this year, the brand opened up takeout and delivery ghost kitchens in Williamsburg and Midtown West for its goopy food, but this week it is now an official brick-and-mortar spot at 346 E. 92nd St. near First Avenue. Here there are bowls aplenty on offer and avocado seems to find its way into nearly every dish on the menu.
A Big ol’ Bowl of Brazil
This month, the Standard Grill will get a dose of Brazilian flavoring. Chef Manu Buffara is collaborating with the kitchen here to serve Brazilian dishes in a communal atmosphere, sharing each dish family style. “This menu is a shared celebration inspired by the energy of New York and the warmth of Brazilian hospitality,” she said.
Expect dishes like Chicken Liver Toast, wood-fired wagyu, and Bolo de Bolacha and Burnt Chocolate. To kick-off the collaboration, the restaurant is doing ticketed events on August 13 and 14th. After that, the Brazilian-accented menu will be available at the Standard Grill until August 31. More information here.
Coqodaq Gets Saucy
Korean fried chicken staple, Coqodaq has begun a collaboration with Jangin, a Korean condiment company that specializes in gochujang. From now until August 16, your bucket of chicken at this Flatiron eatery will come with bottles of Jangin sauce to give it an extra dose of flavor and kick.
Two New Chefs at The Musket Room
Nolita restaurant, The Musket Room, recently installed two new chefs in its kitchen. The new chef de cuisine is Noah Ponjuan, who hails from Baton Rouge, LA, and executive pastry chef Onika Brown, who has spent time in the kitchens at Per Se and Manhatta.
Chef Changes at Oberon
Oberon, the brand new shiny restaurant at the New Museum on the Lower East Side, has already had a chef change. Out is chef Julia Sherman, leaving co-executive chef Ali Ghriskey to helm the kitchen.
Arrivederci Antica Pesa
The century-old restaurant in Rome’s Trastevere neighborhood, Antica Pesa, fired up its pasta-boiling burners in Williamsburg in October 2012. But sadly in 2026, the restaurant extinguished the flames on its stove and turned out the lights. The restaurant has vowed to open up in a new, yet-to-be-determined space elsewhere.
Let’s Get Creative with Ketchup
Sarah Rosado is a New York-based artist whose medium is food. She looks at ketchup, for example, and sees a portrait of 19-year-old Spanish soccer phenom Lamine Yamal. Hershey’s chocolate? Let’s make a painting of Eminem. You can view more of her food-related art on her website and even purchase some prints of her work.
On the Menu
So Corny
Noksu is serving a new dessert that it wants you to know about. Pastry chef Brandon Ting has created Summer Corn, a dessert that uses the entire piece of corn—from the husk to the kernels. A pecan corn cake is delicately soaked in Korean corn silk tea, then topped with a caramelized honey corn whip and candied pecans for layers of warmth and texture.
The dish is finished with two distinct tuiles: one crafted from fresh corn juice for a delicate sweetness, and another made from corn nuts, adding a deeply roasted, nutty crunch. A grain-crusted corn ash sablé provides a toasty foundation, crowned with a rich corn ice cream.
Ops, They Did It Again
Ops, one of the best pizzerias below 14th Street, is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its East Village location by offering a new happy hour menu. Stop in Monday to Friday, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. to get your taste buds on fried potatoes, classic tavern-style pizzas, and various cocktail and wine specials.
Muku Welcomes August
Muku, the excellent kaiseki restaurant in Tribeca, is debuting a few new dishes in honor of August: an appetizer of Hairy Crab and Tomato Jelly, Rice with Hokkaido Uni, and a soup course of Yanari Miso with Sea Bass, among other dishes.
Hey Bou!
The East Village outlet of Sushi by Bou has just begun a daytime hand roll experience. Stop into the E. 11th St. location between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, to enjoy three different sets of sushi hand rolls.

Thursday: I love a great rooftop bar. That’s why on Thursday you’ll find me on the art-crammed rooftop of Arlo Nomad, where they have recently refreshed the menu with Tahini Hummus, Chips and Guacamole, and various cheese and charcuterie boards, plus some refreshing boozy frozen cocktails.
Friday: Hong Kong-born chef Lucas Sin is doing an August pop-up at Chinatown restaurant Hop Kee every Thursday to Sunday this month. Find me there Thursday evening, as I prepare to launch a bucket list eating crawl through the neighborhood. Make a reservation through the restaurant’s instagram profile.
Saturday: My friend Mahira Rivers recently updated her list of the best croissants in New York City, so I’m headed to Miolin Bakery in Park Slope on Saturday morning.
