The 411

Michelin Gets Rolling in NY Again

Michelin has just added a slew of new restaurants to its guide. Confidant in Brooklyn Heights; pizza spot, Balera, in Williamsburg; the East Village izakaya, Odo; and the French-Vietnamese restaurant Bistrot Ha are among the new restaurants in the guide for the month of July.

Zendaya and Tom Holland Dine Out

After a rigorous touring with Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, husband and a wife duo Zendaya and Tom Holland stop for date night. The pair headed out on July 16 to the Japanese restaurant Wokuni for a Gold House x OpenTable dinner, as reported by Vogue magazine.

The Ritz-Carlton in NoMad has just opened a verdant, fifth-floor terrace garden. Dahlia’s Garden & Terrace is an open-air spot for dining and drinking where visitors can have a warm-weather dalliance by taking in the views of NoMad while feasting on dishes like Duck Arepas and Oysters, among other delights at this seasonal outdoor terrace.

ChaChaTang Says Goodnight

ChaChaTang, the two-year-old restaurant marriage between John McDonald of Mercer Street Hospitality and chef Wilson Tang of Nom Wah, is closing. The Chinese restaurant will switch off its lights at the end of July. McDonald, who owns the lease on the spot, will use the space to open a restaurant with a new concept later this year.

So Does Sal Tang’s

Another Wilson Tang-related restaurant will also permanently shut down soon. Sal Tang’s, a year-and-a-half-old Cantonese-American restaurant co-owned by Tang and Sal Lamboglia (or Cafe Spaghetti fame) will serve its last eggroll at the end of July.

A Not-So-Eternal Eatery

The underrated Roman restaurant, Bar Camillo, has served its last Rigatoni alla Carbonara. The Prospect Lefferts Gardens restaurant shut down last week. The reason for the closure of this eatery came from increasing ingredient prices and decreasing diners. The sister restaurant of the same name in Flatbush remains open. Let’s pour a Negroni out for Camillo.

Loring Place = Empty Place

Chef Dan Kluger’s well-regarded Greenwich Village restaurant, Loring Place, has sadly shuttered. Increasing costs forced Kluger to make a tough decision and permanently shutdown the wood-fired restaurant on July 14. Kluger’s West Chelsea restaurant, Greywind, is still open.

On the Menu

A Cluckingly Fowl New Brunch

Cleo, the rotisserie chicken-focused West Village restaurant with a Middle Eastern accent, has just debuted weekend brunch. The mid-morning menu includes Biscuits with Harissa Butter and Seasonal Jam, a Pistachio Sweet Roll, and Chicken with Waffles, among other items. Find brunch every Saturday and Sunday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The restaurant has also just installed a new take-out window for pre-ordering dinner after 5 p.m.

Summer with Cynthia

The 28-seat West Village restaurant, Cynthia, has just revamped its menu to reflect the season. Cynthia’s new summer menu includes Poached Lobster Two Ways, grilled miso butter-brushed Brioche Bread, and Corn Custard.

Puttin’ on the Spritz

Estiatorio Milos has launched a new menu of spritzes to keep you refreshed and hydrated through summer. The Naxos Spritz contains yuzu, Amalia Brut, Roots Divino Blanco, and mastiha, a prized resin from the Greek island of Chios; The Symi Spritz is a concoction of Votanikon Gin, grapefruit juice, Italicus, limoncello, Amalia Brut, and club soda. In all, there are five new refreshing spritzes on the menu.

Chasing the Summer

To celebrate British-Nigerian artist Yinka Ilori’s art installation, “Chasing the Sun,” at the Standard East Village, the hotel’s verdant outdoor eatery, The Garden, has debuted a new menu. Some of the new items include Grilled Peaches, Golden Butter Rigatoni, Crispy Chicken (drizzled with wild flower honey), and Amalfi Lemon Gelato. The exhibition and the menu run through August 9.

Don’t Miss This Week

Need some dining out recommendations? Try these three hot spots, and make sure to check out the week’s events.

Tuesday: Yesterday marked the beginning of Summer Restaurant Week. That means I’ll be at Pinky Swear on the Lower East Side diving into their three-course, $60 dinner that includes Yellowfin Tuna Crudo, Lamb Bucatini, and Salted Honey Pie, among other options.

Wednesday: Mắm, one of the best BYOB restaurants in New York, is doing a one-day only chicken hot pot pop-up. Don’t miss out on this. I certainly won’t.

Friday: In Chelsea, along a not-very-promising stretch of Seventh Avenue, is a very promising new Mexican restaurant called Casa Felix. I’ll be there, devouring Oaxacan Cheese Croquettes, Scallop Crudo, and Achiote-Roasted Salmon—with, of course, a Ruby Rita, a pomegranate-flavored frozen margarita.
