The countdown to cravings is officially underway.
White Castle broke ground this morning on its first-ever Texas restaurant, marking a milestone more than a century in the making for America’s oldest fast-food hamburger chain. The highly anticipated location is set to open this fall at 4520 Destination Drive in Grandscape at The Colony.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together The Colony Mayor Richard Boyer, other local dignitaries, White Castle executives—including fourth-generation members of the founding family—and enthusiastic fans eager to celebrate the official start of construction.
The morning featured a mix of White Castle traditions and Texas-sized excitement. In keeping with company custom, dignitaries traded golden shovels for the brand’s signature spatula shovels before taking part in a ceremonial “sprinkling of the onions” over the future grill site. Guests enjoyed samples of the chain’s iconic Sliders while self-described “Cravers” turned out in force to witness the occasion, officially welcoming one of America’s most recognizable fast-food brands to the Lone Star State.
“This is a brand people love, and we’re excited to see that kind of enthusiasm come to The Colony,” Boyer said. “We know our residents have been waiting for this, and we can’t think of a better place for White Castle to call home.”
The 3,430-square-foot restaurant will feature a double drive-thru, canopy seating and a patio, giving guests multiple ways to enjoy the chain’s famous Sliders. The new location is also expected to create 70 jobs, bringing new employment opportunities and economic growth to the community.

Founded in 1921, White Castle operates 336 restaurants nationwide and has long been considered a fast-food pioneer. The Colony location represents the company’s first brick-and-mortar restaurant in Texas, bringing its signature Sliders and century-old legacy to a state where demand from loyal fans has been building for years.
With construction now underway, North Texas residents can start counting down the days until they no longer have to cross state lines or stock up on frozen grocery-store sliders to satisfy their White Castle cravings. By late fall, the iconic brand’s famous steamed-on-a-bed-of-onions burgers will finally have a permanent home in Texas.
