Does Colorado Have its Own Style of Pizza?

Well, yes, it does.

We know the traditional Italian style, New York style pizza, Chicago deep dish pizza, and Greek pizza from New England, but what about Colorado? Does Colorado have its own style of pizza?

Yes, Colorado has its own style of pizza called Mountain Pie or Colorado-style pizza. Known for its thick, braided crust made of honey instead of sugar, this unique style of pizza was born in the Rocky Mountains. The elasticity of the braided crust helps to hold in all the toppings without spilling over the sides, making it a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Whether you’re visiting Denver or enjoying a slice right here at home, you’ll love this delectable pizza that truly embodies everything that makes Colorado great! So if you’re looking for something a little different and extra delicious, give Colorado-style pizza a try and discover your new favorite food.

The pizza was invented at Beau Jo’s, a mountain region pizza joint. Here customers can create their own pizza toppings from a combination of over 50 different topping ingredients. Once you have gobbled up the pizza and have only the crust left, you can dunk that delectable crust in the honey that is traditionally served on the side. You will find honey bottles at every table.

The Mountain Pie Is The Best Pizza I Ever Had!

So Unique With The Honey Crust, It’s A Must For Anyone Visiting Colorado”

The pizza was invented at Beau Jo’s, a mountain region pizza joint. Here customers can create their own pizza toppings from a combination of over 50 different topping ingredients. Once you have gobbled up the pizza and have only the crust left, you can dunk that delectable crust in the honey that is traditionally served on the side. You will find honey bottles at every table.

Although Mountain Pie is often compared to Chicago deep-dish pizza, those pies are baked in the oven for 40 minutes, while Colorado-style pizza is baked in a gas-powered oven for about 10 minutes. Also, there are usually so many toppings on the pies that it is sold by the pound.

Beyond Beau Jo’s, you can find mountain pies at several other establishments. High Mountain Pies in Leadville serves their version of the Colorado classic. If you are in the Denver area, Hops & Pie on Tennyson is a great place to grab a slice. Although, from the looks of it, you may get a Detroit-style pizza instead. Lastly, Rocky Mountain Pizza Co. in Glenwood Springs is a great choice. They have so many toppings and make their crust with Caputo Flour, water, olive oil, yeast, and CO Mountain Honey. Mmmmm, there is that honey again.

Mountain pie has a hand-rolled edge of daily made dough creating a barrier to hold in a mountain full of fresh toppings, to satisfy an adventurous appetite.
